On modern times

You can't make up anything anymore.
The world itself is a satire.
All you're doing is recording it.
~Art Buchwald

And I'm only a little bit sore!

Oh, I had such a fun time yesterday!!

My friend and I braved the cold and took the horses for a lovely ride through the sun-dappled trails in the woods, the ski-doos may be annoying but they do pack down the snow real good, leaving perfect riding trails behind.

We stuck some toe-heating pads in our boots so our extremities were toasty-warm, the evergreens blocked the wind and the horses were raring to GO! Quiet, serene, snow-laden trees twinkling in the sun - oh, it was incredible!

Jack may be 26+ years old but he has the energy of a horse half his age once he's under the saddle, he loooves "working" and was actually pissed at me when I slowed him down, we had a small stretch of canter but with the cold air and his unknown physical condition I was afraid to exhaust him - um, quite the contrary... he wanted to RUN and was like a loaded spring once he was warmed up.

Once the weather allows for regular conditioning he'll get to go farther and at the pace he wants but for now I have to be responsible.

Man, that was fun though :-D

We both forgot our cameras though - darn.

It's Monday and it's the last day of long, cold January - well, at least here in eastern Canada-eh. Life's a shooting star, whooosh! Today's for house cleaning, laundry and cooking, tomorrow is for shopping and car mechanicals, Wednesday I have software training in the city and beyond that I don't want to know. February is going to be crazy-busy with lots of traveling and fun social stuff - yey!

Wishing you all a lover-ly day!

Bits n'bobs

I may dislike January for all sorts of reasons but I cannot say that I saw this one fly by..!

Soon February? Really?

*giddy!*

Nothing much new, I posted some pics of the new chicks on The Chicken Diaries if you haven't seen them yet... there's even a little penguin in this batch, how cute is that?
Lookit!

Her name is Maggie Mae,
and she better be a girl or we can't keep her - booo!

So, I've been trying to eat less carbs (ok, bread...) in the hopes to shed a wee bit of that muffin top waist. Combined with farm exercise, of course. Um. Do you know how HARD it is to not eat bread? cereal? all kinds of tasty stuff?

Evil, I tell you.

I'm not sure that curbing carb intake by 5% is going to make much of a difference though :-/

I've found a way to hard-boil fresh farm eggs so that's awesome. Less meat, more eggs. Trying to eat tofu but the only way I find it edible is by shallow frying it in hot oil. Not very diet-friendly!

Anyone have tricks to share?

And don't even think of suggesting "drop the cakes and cookies" cuz that ain't gonna happen. There's a limit to the insanity of being fit, thin and healthy!

Yeah.

PS: interesting poll going on at the moment, don't you think?

A good day in unflattering pics!

Vegas and I have a running joke between us - he's the brains of the operation but I'm the photographer!

I love my husband and it's not really his fault as most of the pics he takes of me are with a crappy camera (in this case an iPhone) but I'm psychologically scarred now, when it's time for pics I cringe... talk about making one feel horribly deformed :-/

I swear the mirror is so much kinder to my old face, holy sh*t.

Anyhoo, yesterday was very lovely despite cold snowy wet grey weather. I dressed up as Waldo and we drove to the city for an Imax movie that we never got to see (four times we tried to see Tron and every time has failed for one reason or another - it must be destiny).

Five minutes before leaving the house I somehow got an eyelash lodged under my eyelid and it hurt like a mofo, it just would NOT flush out and kept scraping my eyeball every time I blinked. Agony! So yeah, a movie was out of the question.
So we went to my favorite book store instead and I got some loot!

This was me with a red leaky nose thanks to the bitter wind,
I almost got this book just for the cover!

Vegas brought me to a nice sushi place he knows,
what a treat!
This was his plate:

I got to eat a knob of wasabi just for kicks.
OK not really, I'm not suicidal.

Tempura is yummy.
I should audition for the circus with this face.

After six attempts or so,
this was the best pic of us we could get with the iPhone.
Yeah, it would send anyone into a depression.
Like, seriously??
There were no lemons involved in the making of this horrible photo!

I used to have good pics taken of me by my ex,
I don't miss him but I do miss the photos.
Yes, I am that vain.
Sigh.

Anyways. The chickens don't care what I look like and my husband doesn't seem to mind that my face is melting so I'll just go in denial about the whole thing. It still stings though.

Yes, I did get my cake (mmmm black forest!) with a sparkler in it, washed down with a good glass of beaujolais to the peeping sound of a bunch of new baby chicks - total tally is 8 sweet new faces! - followed by a hot bubble bath and a good night's sleep.

What more could a lady want? ;-)

Back to routine today... barn mucking, cleaning, laundry, cooking, the works.

I might have cake for lunch, though - hehe!

Reflections

Tomorrow I turn even older than I am today.

Well that happens every day,

But tomorrow is special-ish :-)

Happy Birthday to me?

Bah, being a winter baby in this part of the world means nothing special ever happens for my birthday unless I high-tail it somewhere warmer, and that's happened like once (or did it?) in my life!

What?

I just dream of a birthday picnic party in the park, that's all :-)

I can't say that it was a big, eventful year - more like coasting along the roads forged the year before, enjoying a few new views along the way and getting a bit jaded about the whole thing. I'm not complaining, lord knows I needed the break and I love my life!

I'm grateful for my health even if it's not perfect, grateful for all my wonderful pets even if it breaks my heart every time I lose one, grateful for our house even if it drives me crazy sometimes, grateful to have found my perfect forever horse (and let's pray he lives for many more years), grateful for my family and friends even if I don't see them as often as I'd like and most of all, grateful for my amazing husband Vegas and there are no "even ifs" attached to this one - just my hand on his sexy butt, LOL!

Whatever this new year will bring, I have vowed to embrace head on.

I know I will feel as many joys as I will sorrows, face as many challenges as results, as many frustrations as rewards. Life only comes at you once: don't spend it under the covers, wishing the hours away and counting the minutes until the next day. Before you know it your best years will be behind you and then what?

Yeah, I am gonna BITE into this year people!

I have several trips planned, some small and some big, some projects anticipated around the property once the snow melts, some new skills to master and a few fears to conquer.

Doesn't that sound amazing? :)

Energy, it's a good thing to have.

I want it, I need and crave it, I'm going to create it - starting by opening a lovely bottle of Beaujolais I got today to celebrate my last year as a 40-year old house farm-wife.

A toast to everything old, everything new, everything owned and nothing blue!

She's gone

Sookie died today at 5:30pm, taken in front of my eyes by massive convulsions. She suffocated to death while I held her and there was nothing I could do.

The pain is unbearable.

It's like my heart has been ripped out of my chest.

There is no god.

Baby it's **** outside

We don't use the "C" word here.

Well, not this morning anyways - it only makes it hurt more! Seriously, the weather monkeys were predicting a 4-day cold snap and for once (ô miracle) they were right. We're on Day Three now, good god will it ever end? Everything was frozen in the barn this morning, no water or anything!
I kid you not, we woke up to this:

Luckily Vegas has a super-duper winter coat to keep him toasty when walking the dogs in the morning but the dogs don't have anything to guard against "cold foot", they fall on their sides until their feet get numb enough to walk again. It only lasts a few seconds, but still!

Yes even "siberia dogs" think it's too bleddy cold!

Meanwhile, inside the house, I've been battling with a tough situation the past four days. My only little black silkie hen, Sookie, suddenly fell ill last week and I still have no clue what's wrong with her. She has grown very weak, is not eating or drinking on her own and has lost the use of her legs. She cannot stand nor sit and spends most of her time laying on her side, panting from a nonstop rapid heartbeat.

If I prop her up she looks like this:

Then she looses her balance, flaps her wings to try and right herself and topples over, exhausted. It's so pitiful to see. She's lost a lot of weight despite me hand-feeding her every few hours the past four days, her food is expelled mostly undigested and I'm at my wit's end.

I can't find any information online that fit her symptoms and I've never seen anything like it. She is trying to fight it, she's not ready to die and I can't give up on my little sweetheart, yet this situation isn't tenable.

If you have a spare good thought, prayer or joojoo to send it would be much appreciated...

We need a miracle here to save my little girl.

Wishing you all a happy Monday (I know, it's an oxymoron!) -

Green sleeves

In the depth of winter,
I finally learned that within me
there lay an invincible summer.
~Albert Camus

Jeebus heck it's cold out there

It's Siberia!

Dipped in an ice bucket!

Every winter we get a few "cold snaps" and this year's no exception... I hope this one doesn't last too long.

Of course when it's too cold to go out and enjoy nature, the sun shines bright in the blue blue sky. Then it gets normal-cold and the skies turn gunmetal grey and the snow collapses on our heads again.

Typical!

I had to go buy old man Jack a winter blanket yesterday - only the horse supply store didn't have anything warm in his size, they only had a rain sheet (and an expensive one, at that) so Mr Fuzzy's all decked out today in his new gear. At least it will help cut the wind and keep him dry, he tends to collect ice on his long coat which takes forever to dry - can't have a humid horse in this weather, it's a risk for pneumonia and other delights.

I'd take a photo but my camera will freeze outside!

In other news - who am I kidding, there is no other news. I'm boring. My life is a never-ending round-trip between the house and the barn, my hours are filled with night sleep and day doodads.

I dream of travel, of London, of taking that perfect photo, yet I dread the return of warm weather as that means countless hours of farm work: rebuilding, cleaning and maintaining three chicken coops and runs, horrible yard and garden work, post-winter crap cleanup in the huge paddocks and around the house, and I digress.

Bah, that's just my winter laziness speaking.

The less one does, the less one feels like doing.

Hence the expanding muffin-top around my middle.

Being plagued with a strange germ isn't helping. It's like an invisible twin strapped to my back, pricking my lungs with a tiny pitchfork, weighing me down with sticky funk. My mood's all over the place, I never feel refreshed when I get up in the morning and I just wish I could find the mojo to do something about it.

Gaaaah!

Very much looking forward to a weekend at my mom's. Then hopefully a short visit to my dad's place no too far after that. A horseback ride would be nice, if the frickin' weather would cooperate.

I need a kick in the ass!

Eye candy, just for you ;-)

Without further ado, here are our four little treasures -
they hatched yesterday and are all fat, happy and healthy!

The 5th egg did not hatch, unfortunately,
but I am grateful to have these four beauties.

They are incredibly quiet, zen and laid-back!

Amazing how different they look a day after hatching, eh?

It will take three to four months
before we know which ones are girls vs boys
but I'll be happy with whatever.

I am so in love with these tiny fluffballs!!!

Amazing

It's amazing what a little bit of sunshine can do to lift the blues away, even if it's bleddy cold outside.

SNaP!

Like that :-)

Of course it's almost time for sundown but at least we got a couple of hours.

I may have to slap on the SPF 60 if this continues :-D

Also amazing: seeing new life being born right in front of your eyes - yes, yes! The first little chick has finally arrived after two long days from first cheep to first peep! And I caught it on video too, what a total surprise and an amazing treat!

Go check out The Chicken Diaries to see the little miracle :-)

She's got a good set of lungs, that one - LOL!

What's amazing in your life today? :-)

Lassitude

If you're going through hell, keep going.
~Winston Churchill

Tuesday, January 18, 2011

Well, well, well...

Another thick snow storm today, what else is new?

Poor Vegas is stuck in it, driving to the city... I worry, I can't help it.

Must be a wife thing?

******

You will find today's eye candy treat on The Chicken Diaries - a short video of my green egg-layers, for those who like my girly-girls :-)

******

My barn chores are taking a chunk of time out of my mornings this week, ugggh. I'll be relieved when my friend is back from her vacation in Florida (insert mental jealous shanking of sorts) this weekend, caring for two horses on top of a rowdy bunch of chickens is just a bit much.

It wouldn't be such an issue if our pets weren't so spoiled, but they are, so there you go.

Today the dogs get their pedis, the giant house gets its hoovering and hubby gets his fresh quiche for dinner tonight. What can I say? Life is good :-)

******

The incubation seems to be stable at the moment.

Crossing fingers and toes that yesterday's woes didn't cause permanent damage to the unborn chicks.

******

Go cast your votes on the new poll, don't worry it's totally anonymous so be truthful!

What's up, pussycat?

The waiting game begins...

The incubator is on lockdown as of this morning, let's see if we get any sweet fat healthy baby chicks by Thursday! The trepidation is unbearable... The hope to see new life born, the fear that there will be birth defects and, if that happens, the terror of having to end this new life.

Please send us your good vibes and prayers!

January weather has kicked in, bitterly cold and brutally unrelenting.
You'd think we would have gotten used to it by now, eh?
Not a chance.
Brrrrrr.

I've so many projects in my head I don't know where to begin.
I want to paint and decorate my office,
make it a happy place to work in.
I need to get my photo portfolio together and advertise.
And start putting in some hours for Vegas' company.

This week I have the sole care of two horses,
plus trying to break some broody hens (PITA),
and now a bunch of babies soon hatching
so that means more chicken care hours.

My birthday is in nine days,
and I really could care less.
I want to go spend a weekend at my mom's place
by early February.
I promised her, and it'll be great fun -
lord knows I need the break from routine!

I don't know why I'm blogging
all this nonsense.
I should be out there being productive.

Guilt has kicked in.

Happy Monday, you guys :-)

How to lose weight real fast

(Some humor for you today... copied from the internet, whoever penned this is a genius!)

People are always on the lookout for a new diet. The trouble with most diets is that you don't get enough to eat (the starvation diet), you don't get enough variation (the liquid diet) or you go broke (the all-meat diet). Consequently, people tend to cheat on their diets, or quit after 3 days.

Well, now there's the new Toddler Miracle Diet.

Over the years you may have noticed that most two year olds are trim. Now the formula to their success is available to all in this new diet. You may want to consult your doctor before embarking on this diet, otherwise, you may be seeing him afterwards.

Good Luck!!

DAY ONE:

Breakfast: One scrambled egg, one piece of toast with grape jelly.

Eat 2 bites of egg, using your fingers; dump the rest on the floor.

Take 1 bite of toast, then smear the jelly over your face and clothes.

Lunch: Four crayons (any color), a handful of potato chips, and a glass of milk (3 sips only, then spill the rest).

Dinner: A dry stick, two pennies and a nickel, 4 sips of flat Sprite.

Bedtime snack: Throw a piece of toast on the kitchen floor.

DAY TWO:

Breakfast: Pick up stale toast from kitchen floor and eat it.

Drink half bottle of vanilla extract or one vial of vegetable dye.

Lunch: Half tube of "Pulsating Pink" lipstick and a handful of Purina Dog Chow (any flavor). One ice cube, if desired.

Afternoon snack: Lick an all-day sucker until sticky, take outside, drop in dirt. Retrieve and continue slurping until it is clean again.

Then bring inside and drop on rug.

Dinner: A rock or an uncooked bean, which should be thrust up your left nostril. Pour Grape Kool-Aid over mashed potatoes; eat with spoon.

DAY THREE:

Breakfast: Two pancakes with plenty of syrup, eat one with fingers, rub in hair. Glass of milk; drink half, stuff other pancake in glass.

After breakfast, pick up yesterdays sucker from rug, lick off fuzz, put it on the cushion of best chair.

Lunch: Three matches, peanut butter and jelly sandwich. Spit several bites onto the floor. Pour glass of milk on table and slurp up.

Dinner: Dish of ice cream, handful of potato chips, some red punch.

Try to laugh some punch through your nose, if possible.

FINAL DAY:

Breakfast: A quarter tube of toothpaste (any flavor), bit of soap, an olive. Pour a glass of milk over bowl of cornflakes, add half a cup of sugar. Once cereal is soggy, drink milk and feed cereal to dog.

Lunch: Eat bread crumbs off kitchen floor and dining room carpet. Find that sucker and finish eating it.

Dinner: A glass of spaghetti and chocolate milk. Leave meatball on plate. Stick of mascara for dessert.

Sparkly hair and techno photos

I finally went and did it - I got highlights today!

No, not the "oh look she's cold" kind of highlights - the kind you put in your hair to lighten and brighten things up ;-)  I had way too much dark going on in there, now I feel all prettied up.

Just tryin' to beat the winter blahs.

I also gussied up my photography business website, won't you go have a look and tell me what you think? Just click HERE. I added a new section called "art prints for sale", which I'm rather proud of - I'm trying to advertise my portfolio locally so please wish me luck on getting a client (or ten)!

It would make my day to sell a few prints :-)

I also have prints available here on Red Bubble - I can't wait to add more work, just need to travel first to get some new material. Yeah, I gots the wanderlust...

*le sigh*

In other news I'd trade in my left testicle for a good night's sleep.

You know what I mean.

Time for some melatonin tonight... I need all my energy cuz as of tomorrow morning and for the next seven days I have the full and sole care of two horses, not just one. That's a lot of poop to shovel, folks.

Good night!

Blog paralysis

My blogging brain's just not grinding gears lately.

Still run down, still battling some evil virus, still super tired yet life goes on even if all I want to do is sleep all day. I'm not doing anything stressful but as many of you know, coping with a week-long headache-slash-migraine is taxing all in itself. Bleh!

I did have to drive to the city this morning to deliver some eggs and fetch Vegas, who is finally back from his business trip. Yey husband is home!

But - my god I hate the city and its RUDE drivers - I almost got sideswiped because some stupid old bitch never checked her blind spot before merging into my lane, then she had the gall to drive along me and throw me the finger and yell, like WTF??

She's lucky guns are outlawed here.

Bitch.

The cold weather and never-ending grey skies and snow, snow, snow don't leave much for room for outdoors creativity, everyone's just trying to survive right now instead of thrive.

Sometimes we have a day or two of thaw:

But for the most part we're freezing our arses off.

January, eh?

Speaking of cold, we finally bought a new fridge today. It'll be delivered in 12 days so it's something to look forwards to. We're stuck with a small space to put it in and a very restricted budget so our choices were limited, but we still found something nice.

Anything is better than this ancient, lop-sided, loud, crooked and broken fridge that currently sits in our kitchen. It came with the house and has served us well, but it really has to go now. We'll move it to our cold room downstairs and thus gain some extra storage so it all works out well.

Now if we could only replace the decrepit dishwasher and the worn-out stove top all would be hunky dory! Ah, one thing at a time. We gots patience :)

We like it

[T]elevision's perfect. You turn a few knobs, a few of those mechanical adjustments at which the higher apes are so proficient, and lean back and drain your mind of all thought.  And there you are watching the bubbles in the primeval ooze.  You don't have to concentrate.  You don't have to react.  You don't have to remember.  You don't miss your brain because you don't need it.  Your heart and liver and lungs continue to function normally.  Apart from that, all is peace and quiet.  You are in the man's nirvana.  And if some poor nasty minded person comes along and say you look like a fly on a can of garbage, pay him no mind.  He probably hasn't got the price of a television set.

If it's broke, well then, fix it!

Learn from my mistake here ;-)

We had a little "star fracture" in the car's windshield last spring, or maybe it was summer - you know, you're driving along and bam! a flying rock hits your screen and there you go.

I went to the repair shop and they quoted me $50 to get it fixed, maybe free if we had good insurance, and it would take 30 minutes. Only thing was they were full and I had to come back the next day, no appointment needed. How cool was that?

Only thing... I never took the car back.

I figured I would "do it later".

This "later" turned into months which turned into a giant windshield fracture a couple of weeks ago, thanks to water infiltrating the tiny crack and ice expansion doing the rest.

Uuughhh.

New diagnosis? Complete windshield replacement needed. Cost: $850, of which our insurance deductible was $250. Plus a half day of having no car.

That is how to blow $200 really fast, people.

*oh, the shame and the fury*

But wait, it doesn't stop there. The brand new windshield they installed had a manufacturer's defect, a distortion on the passenger side - you know those funhouse mirrors that have a wave that make you thin and fat as you stretch up and down? Yeah, like that only add motion sickness since you're moving. It was horrible.

I just went today to get yet another windshield installed, that's more time out of my day and inconvenience, to boot. No it didn't cost anything as it was guaranteed work, but still! The aggravation of it all!

So, if it's broken... for the love of god get it fixed, now!

Don't be stupid like I was and wait!

The long minutes

Waiting for the fish to bite or waiting for wind to fly a kite.
Or waiting around for Friday night
or waiting perhaps for their Uncle Jake
or a pot to boil or a better break or a string of pearls
or a pair of pants or a wig with curls or another chance.
Everyone is just waiting.

Two years ago

Two years ago
I married my best friend, Vegas.
We had been engaged for over a long year -
My, talk about patience!
I loves him that much :-)

I sometimes hear girls fantasizing about their
"dream man" that doesn't exist:
smart, funny, handsome, sexy, responsible,
faithful, successful, loving, kind, compassionate, etc -

And I want to tell them that such a man does exist,
only I got him so neener! neener!

For the first time in my life,
I feel safe.
I have learned to trust again -
he makes me feel like the most important
person in the world.

He makes me laugh,
and laugh,
and laugh some more.
He spoils me silly
and supports my eccentricities
my strange hobbies
and everything in between.

He constantly surprises me with romantic stuff.

He "gets" me - and that is a rare thing indeed.
I look at him and think
he's the most beautiful man in the world.
I want to smell his soft skin all the time.

I don't know how I got so damn lucky
but I'm very grateful for every moment spent together.

I hope to spend the rest of my life with this incredible man.

I love you, husband!

There's a first time for everything

I don't remember ever catching "the flu" as an adult, maybe as a kid but I don't remember. I've had a few colds before, just like anyone else, and even bronchitis once but never the flu.

So I don't know what happened here.

Yesterday I had a dry cough follow me around all day, thought it was barn dust in my throat. By early evening my throat had filled with razor blades, my skin had gone super sensitive and the migraine hit. Cramps everywhere. Dizzy and nauseous.

Didn't sleep a wink all night despite pills and syrups.

The damn fever finally broke around lunchtime today but the misery is far from over.

My voice is shot and I can hardly lift a glass of water to my lips.

I'm wracked with pain from head to toes, but mostly the head. That's where the tonsils are, right? Those nasty swollen things that stop you from swallowing?

Grrrrr.

Thank goodness Vegas took care of the farm critters for me today, I couldn't stand up without almost fainting.

I'm so lucky to have such an amazing husband-nurse :-)

So yeah, I can now say that I've officially hosted my first flu virus and we're having a grand ol'partay.

Won't you join in the fun? :-D

How does this happen?

We've been living in this house for over a year and a half now - I'd say we're mostly unpacked, not at all decorated but pretty functional. The kitchen is packed full with stuff, there's still some spare room in a cupboard or two but that's pretty much it.

So, um.

I accidentally found an empty drawer the other day.

I know - crazy!

I don't think I've even ever seen that drawer before, which is next to one I often use!

How does this happen? :-o

It's still empty, btw.

I'm afraid that if I put anything in there I'll never find it again!

PS: don't forget to cast your votes in the current poll!

And the snow keeps falling

I just posted a baby chick hatch update HERE if you're curious.

It's not good news, but what can ya do?

Thick heavy snow today (for a change, LOL), I finally got some long-overdue chores out of the way this morning which left me with some time for a hot cuppa tea just now.

It's awesome :-D

I just cannot see myself ever going back to the 9-to-5 office grind, I just don't know how I could cope. Just thinking about it gives me cold sweats. It would be über-hell.

*shiver*

Just got this below gem from my dad, hope you enjoy and don't forget to steal five minutes for yourself to do nothing, absolutely nothing. It feels so good :-)

Two things that made me happy today

A hot latte after breakfast.
And a lovely ride with Jack on snowy trails.

Also of note:

Ten minutes of morning sunshine, before the clouds moved in.
Paying off a huge vet bill thanks to awesome Vegas.
A basket full of perfect eggs.
Family members dropping by to buy them.
Happy kissy doggies.
And husband.
And lovely sweet bloggy friends.

It never ends

Earlier this evening my sweet young rooster Cheddar died in my arms.

I had hatched him July 18th and as he matured, it became apparent that he had some kind of heart or internal organ defect - his three sisters thrived and he was just wasting away. He was destined to die young and probably suffered the last couple of months, he was always cold and weighed a feather. Poor sweet, gentle Cheddar.

This morning he didn't greet me as usual, he laid under the heat lamp with his head tucked under his wing, life ebbing out of his frail tired body.

I knew he wouldn't last the day.

Why I bother having pets when it hurts so much to lose one, I'll never understand. My heart is bleeding and I just want to scream, it's so unfair.

And Jack chose this evening to colic, five minutes after I let him inside for the night.

He gave me a good fright, at his age you never know how bad it can get and how quickly they can perish. I gave him banamine (prescription pain meds), some homeopathic granules, I walked him and massaged his tummy - he was gassed up like a helium balloon and after an hour of farting up a storm the cramp finally passed. He's fine now, thank goodness.

I won't go into details about the rest of my day, suffice to day it's been a non-stop rush - I'm physically exhausted and emotionally drained.

I'm grateful for my sweet supportive husband, my happy healthy doggies and the soft clean bed I get to climb into soon.

Let sleep wash the pain from my soul.

Good night.

Purple tree chooks and cookie cake

Vegas and I drove to the city yesterday to meet up with some friends and deliver lots of egg goodness, it was so much fun to catch up! I must have talked a mile a minute and sounded like a complete lunatic.

Yeah, I don't get out much...
My sweet friend Prin spoiled me with this awesome tree ornament:

And her famous cookie cake,
which is like sex on your tongue:

Tastes like Pillsbury cookies but made from scratch! :-D

Yesterday marked the end of Eating Really Bad. I went all out and had nothing but crap all day and woke up feeling like junk this morning. One item on my "things I want to do this year" is to eat better and it started this morning. You need to only change one small thing at a time until it's part of your normal routine, otherwise it gets overwhelming and failure is always just around the corner.

Or so I heard :-)

Still working on that bucket list, will post it soon.

The sun's out today (it was supposed to rain, fog and snow...) so crossing fingers it holds for a little while longer, my friend and I want to take the horses out for a ride this afternoon - can't wait!

Off I go!

Hello, new year

Well, 2011 started out pretty foggy, both inside and out... the heavy weather makes for a nasty migraine and I promise you it is *not* due to alcohol! A few painkillers later and the pounding head is relentless. I hope it's not a sign of things to come :-o
See? Foggy bottoms:

Our friend Jeff put this in my xmas stocking,
he thought it was something like magic mushrooms no doubt.
But no, lo and behold - chemical magic!
(I have to say, it looks more like a mushroom than a tree!)

One of my prezzies from Vegas,
please no jokes about "the gift of cock" -
this little roo is awesome!!

Last night was spent quietly at home, we made sushi rolls and they were ay-may-zing!! Like, seriously. Even better than many restaurant sushis I've had in my life. We stuffed our faces, had sparkling perrier, I had a glass of wine to beat the blues and we topped all that off with fresh pineapple and frozen vanilla yogurt. Yummy!

In other news, new fuzzy babies are (hopefully) underway... posted a pic HERE!

I'll be revisiting 2010 in another post, a retrospective of sorts. I'm too full of pounding cobwebs right now to think straight, and we're leaving for the city soon to meet up with friends and deliver eggs.

How did you celebrate the new year?
