How I love Saturdays... Made sure to boil the bedsheets last night as there's nothing like sleeping naked in fresh scented softness - rrrrrrr! Catching up on those elusive z's :-)
After a bunch of chores, Vegas and I slipped outside into the crisp sunny afternoon to run some errands and oooo! Of course, since I wasn't looking for any clothes, I stumbled on a rack of "reduced to $20" designer tops in a shop we just strolled into for fun... I got two sweet n'sexy Buffalo David Bitton shindings worth $200 for $40!
*gazes proudly at silky purchases*
Also finally found measuring cups and spoons as well as a kickass peeler, since I'll be doing a fair bit of cooking in our new home soon... At least that's the plan. Yeah.
Came home, kinda watched some TV and then got told "onion rings! oooo craving!" and being the wonderful wife that I am of course I had to whip up a batch. Hadn't made them in years... I think they came out pretty good, very light and crispy thanks to the beer batter.
What? It's still winter!
By the way if you wonder why my sides hurt - and I'm sure you've nothing else to wonder about at just this precise moment - we've just watched one of the funniest, stupidest, most LSD-esque Hong Kong movies ever... This gem is called "The Sixty Million Dollar Man" in case anyone has a movie fetish. See, we're both huge fans of Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle, Shaolin Soccer, etc) but had never seen his older work, circa early 90's.
I think we were both taken by surprise at how absurd this fast-paced smorgasbord of insanity actually turned out to be. Holy stupid, batman!
Definitely something to watch again someday :-D
Oh and we've found another hopeful in the Great Impossible House Hunt... not going to jinx it by saying too much as we're waiting for our agent to send us a ton of info on the place, only after this will we decide if we want a visit or not. We sent her an exhaustive list of questions and let's see what comes back.
Twice burned, forever paranoid I guess.
OK amigos, time for some shut-eye and a happy rest of weekend to you!

La dee daaaah
And a lovely “pounding freezing rain” Friday wraps this week up!
Work is very quiet after being super busy all week so no complaints from me… trying to catch up on life and getting sidetrack by house searches again. Oh lordy. Good thing I like this kind of stuff and that we’re not in any hurry – it would be nice to find the perfect place sooner rather than later, but we’re not going to jump into just anything. We want something solid and reeeerrrr.
Lastest discoveries: Vegas doesn’t like ham, I need some new pants, non-brand name sugary cereal sucks, I have no concentration, a very small bladder and grapes go bad fast.
Should I eat this chocolate oatmeal cookie before or after my sammich?
Dilemmas!
Does anyone know how long a tin roof lasts on a house and how much it costs to replace one, vs a shingle roof? Like on these old century stone houses, many have tin roofs but I don’t know anything about them… input welcome!
Have a great Friday, everyone!

Couuuuggghhhhh
It contaminates the air, pollutes my hair and clothes, not to mention my lungs.
This takes place without my consent. I have a pleasure, also. I like a beer now and then.
The residue of my pleasure is urine. Would you be annoyed if I stood on a chair
and pissed on your head and your clothes without your consent?

A day of numbers
Hours slept: 7
Breakfast items: 1 banana, 1 bowl of cereal, 1 coffee
Hours spent in long-assed meeting: almost 3
Number of disgusting frozen lunches eaten: 1
Minutes taken to choke it down: 7
Spreadsheets tackled: 4
Phonecalls answered: 11
Emails wrangled: 33
Expletitives issued: 36.5
Eyes rubbed repeatedly: 2
Hours spent mooshing over Vegas: innumerable
Hours spent with new real estate agent: 2
Boxes of Toffee Butter Crunch n'Munch eaten: almost 1
And that was my day.
G'nite!

Oh em gee
Well, the house inspection went super well - it showed us just how crappy that place was!
Let's see... mold under the roof, seven cracks in the foundation (some on every side of the house), two water infiltrations that happened the past week due to such cracks, a roof at the end of its life and I won't go into the details of all the other stuff.
But.
We didn't even need the inspection to realize there is no way in fucking hell we would ever move to such a place when my brother pointed to the "nice" side of the property... which was lined in its entirety by hundreds of rusted cars piled on top of each other. Like, one kilometer long of junkyard hell. There must have been over 500 cars, ready to be recycled. So with the house's surface well just besides all that crap, can you imagine the land contamination?!
I almost fainted.
Last time we were there (our first visit) it was bitterly cold and windy, all the junk was covered by snow so we saw nothing: just white beyond the trees. It all looked fine. But last week we had very mild weather, lots of snow melted and voila. The blanket came off the turd.
Can you imagine how pissed we all are? I mean, we wasted $620 on a four-hour inspection and hours of time and energy on a property we would never have made an offer on if this garbage had been declared to us in the first place. Our agent was livid when I told her about it, with just cause.
Oh, and the titty bar next door? My brother said that the "appartments" a few feet away from the house's kitchen was where the dancers earned extra money, if you got the drift. Biker heaven in the summer. Not to mention the OTHER scrap yard a few hundred feet from the property's entrance, on the other side of the road...
My god, how could we have been so blind and so stupid.
They couldn't PAY ME to live in that horrid toxic wasteland.
*hangs head in shame*
So, it is with an immense sense of relief and a tad of disappointment that we are back to the drawing board. Just need to clear the paperwork today that gets us out of the Purchase Offer and that's that.
I never liked that run-down caca-coloured bungalow anyways, it was anything but the house of my dreams. We're meant for greater things and we will find it! That dog boarding kennel business will be mine, and it will be mine this summer!
Vegas said so :-)

Superscramblingsaturday
No rest for me today...
Been busy since I got up with dog care, errands, house cleaning and cooking. I have to get Vegas from the airport at 6pm and an hour before that, one of my cousins is coming over to look at our apartment as he's thinking of renting it when we move out.
There's just something about scrubbing all the dog ick away, LOL!
At least it's been keeping me busy enough so the anxiety stays at bay... kinda sorta. How strange that I'm nervous to be seeing my husband in two hours, eh?
It was a very long and very exhausting week.
I think we need some downtime.
Oh and tomorrow at noon is the house inspection, it's supposed to snow so I'm not sure how that's all going to go down. But hey, we're destined for greatness! It will go well! LOL
Gotta get more cooking done, so off I go.
Hope you're all having a great weekend!

Today I shall be happy
I shall be positive.
I shall believe in destiny, in life, in my husband.
I shall look my demons straight in the eye and tell them to bugger off.
I shall live again :-)

Need a band-aid
For my heart.
I just let melonhead into the house after he spent 15 minutes eating all the fresh snow off the balcony.
Told him he was going to the dogsitter's today and he did his happy dance, then I asked him if he missed daddy... so he ran into the bedroom and went to put his head on Vegas' duvet, looking all sad.
A big, big band-aid, please.

As Prince once said...
"Let's go crazy! Let's get nuts!"
How can a day that was so dreadfully boring have been so fraught with drama?
I've slacked so much at work the past two days, it's a miracle I still have a job... What can I say, my mind and heart are elsewhere at the moment. It's all I can do to hold myself together. But hell, I need this job, I need to be careful. Sigh.
*pauses to inspect hangnail*
So, we got our mortgage today... pending the assessment of bank's land evaluator which, I was told, should be no problem but I'm still not celebrating until we're in the clear. So we'll see next week, I suppose.
Hard to celebrate after a long, painful, bare-fisted fight with your husband.
All on MSM, no less.
Sigh.
If it hadn't been for Prin and Curly's constant support today I may have totally lost the plot and just broken down at my desk.
I woke up this morning in a horrible, ominous mood for no apparent reason. In hindsight it must have been pent-up anger about a lot of relationship issues, coupled with current stresses and all this "what the hell am I going to do with my life" stuff. Yep. I'm so lost, it's not funny.
I may sound like I have it all together but I'm faking.
How can you love someone so much yet want to hurt him so badly? What the fuck is wrong with me?
I've hardly eaten in two days, I've no appetite. I'm lovesick. I'm sick of love. I forced down some egg pie tonight then after more online arguing I broke up with Vegas. I was done, finished, at the end of my rope. But then I felt so ill I coughed up my dinner a few minutes later.
To quote Vegas: "Waste of a good pie."
Um. Yeah.
There is a long rocky road ahead but he's my best friend and we'll just have to strap on our boots and help each other along the way. I don't want the alternative. I want him.
But fuck it's hard sometimes.
***changes the channel***
At the end of tonight's dog walk, I passed three drunken men near a bar, they were smoking and talking loudly in the street, in the middle of a snow storm.
Now if you know my dogs you'll understand that I don't trust they would protect me in case of danger: the big one is an attention whore who loves everybody and the little one is scared of her own shadow.
So when one of them gestured towards me and shouted to his buddies "Hey I'll take the girl and you two take the dogs!" I was very relieved to see both dogs' hackles go UP, way UP, they got taller and squeezed themselves close to me and then one of the drunks said "Are you fucking crazy! Those are akitas!" and I never stopped walking and that was the end of that.
Even fuckwit drunks can know their dogs, that was a pleasant surprise.
The best surprise is that I now know my dogs would never let anyone hurt me. I am hugely relieved. *blushes*
***other channel***
I cooked some broccoli and now my place smells like ripe farts. Awesome.
***switches to satellite TV***
I booked a haircut for noon on Friday. But after coloring my hair last night, it looks quite good again so I'll cancel the chop-chop and keep that for a real springtime treat next month.
That's it for today.
I am drained.
Good night.

You need a plan, dear
That's what I told Vegas last night: I need a plan to get through the evening in order not to wilt. So, after walking the dogs in the damp darkness:
Then popped in a french quebecois movie I'd been wanting to see for a while (Cruising Bar 2), it's not great but it made me laugh out loud plenty of times... I stopped it halfway cuz I wanted to keep some for tonight.
I'd have made a great housewife during the Great Depression.
*looks at scraggly hair*
I think I'm going to get it cut off this week. Not all of it, but a fair bit. A few big inches. Am tired of the frizzies and of the non-existent hairstyle. Am going to call my hairdresser to see if she can fit me in at lunchtime later this week. Yeah. Why the hell not?
I want to feel pretty again. I look in the mirror and see pudge. A white doughy body with tired eyes, lifeless hair, a bad "office chair" posture. Am sick and tired of my crappy wardrobe, too.
Yes, I've got the end-of-winter blues dammit. Where are those scissors?! Time for a chop-chop and an attitude make-over! Enough of this crap! Vegas deserves better than this -
Wooo!
/end of Twisted Knickers Tuesday post/
- I made myself a tasty egg, potato and cheese pie
- While that baked, I arranged for the kids to be at the sitter's today
- I fed them and prepared their chicken kidney dinner for later this week
- Washed all the dishes
- Then I soaked in a lovely hot bath with lavender sea salts
- Had dinner (a bowl of homemade green pea soup then the egg pie)
- Indulged in a diet cola with that
- Then stuffed my face with Hershey's Kisses

I have so little willpower...
Me and the migraine, we're close buddies a few days a month (as you all know if you read this blog, LOL!) and today's no exception. Am functioning on minimum power so decided to not go in to work today, the 3am painkillers did nothing nor did the 7:30am ones. I look like a butt crack.
I'm hoping it's quiet and they won't miss me too much... It's a holiday in the States and for most of Canada so crossing fingers I won't get fired.
But not to make this place all doom and gloom, eh! Vegas landed in London in one piece so at least that was good news. It's dry outside albeit grey, so walking the dogs in a bit should be pleasant, so I hope. You never know with the biting wind.
This hot latte is marvelous and the house inspection has been scheduled for next Sunday...
I'm confident we'll get the mortgage thing settled this week, you see. I'm pushing for good karma and will NOT accept otherwise.
I won't. :-D
Blah. I'm boring, boring, boring. Why are you still reading this?!
Get to work!

The long wait begins
I love infomercials
Really, they're hysterical!
Right now one's playing on TV for some incredible bowl with a light on top that replaces all your cooking appliances - according to Mr T, it's the bomb! LOL LOL
Hey, I'd do it for the money too.
Vegas is leaving tonight for almost a week... it's time for his pilgrimage to the Old Country (England) and it sucks. Yes I get to starfish in the middle of the bed and yes he'll bring back chocolate; am trying to hang on to the positives. Just not sure how I'll manage without smelling his warm skin and seeing his smile for days on end. Sigh.
I might have to hang out here for some company.
Right, time for some breakfast and a shower, need to get this day off the ground. Not sure what's on the menu besides walking the dogs and watching Vegas pack, I really don't feel like doing any chores or cooking today. This week's for Kraft Dinner and sammiches.

Lucky 13, then
I was both surprised and relieved to get multiple heartfelt apologies today from the O.A. for yesterday's horrible moment, who in essence isn't a bad guy... Am not excusing his behavior but at least he had the good sense to feel really, really bad and I know it won't ever happen again. Whew.
I feel all grown up now!
I'm still pissed to have wasted so much time and energy on that shit episode yesterday... thanks to all of you for your kind words, btw. I mean it.
Vegas is watching "Blindness" while I surf blogland, trying desperately to not dive into the bag of Hershey's Kisses that is at arm's length. Gaah. Damn PMS, eh? I'd eat my own foot if it was made of chocolate.
So, our paperwork is all ready for tomorrow's trip to see a new bank lady - 3 hours of driving to apply for a mortgage. Christ. She's our last hope - and ooo!
It's also Saint Valentine's Day!
I bought a fresh pack of bacon to start the day right, the eggs and toast are ready to go, fresh coffee to round it up. Mmmmm. Am already looking forward to it, he he! No idea what dinner will be since I forgot to buy a pair of edible panties. Damn.
Wishing you all a wonderful weekend, may love be in your hearts!

How thick is my skin supposed to be?
Oh fuck it.
I wrote a post about what happened at the office this afternoon and it made me so ill to recall it, that I deleted the damn thing.
I don't want it soiling my blog.
Suffice to say, in all my years of paid employment (almost 25 years of it, people) never have I experienced a character assassination of the likes I went through today.
One minute I was having a completely normal work convo with a coworker and the next minute he was loudly accusing me up and down of being condescending and a whole bunch of other crap that I couldn't believe I was hearing, including "get out of my office". Everybody heard, eh? The few offices there have no ceiling and he was LOUD.
Like, seriously. It would have shocked a bipolar schizo.
I already hate having to work in an office and am only there for the money (hah, isn't everyone...) and am counting down the days until freedom so this just sucks pork cock. I feel like a goddamn prostitute.
Oh look, I went and blogged about it anyways.
Awesome.
Add that to PMS, a sore neck, constant headaches, insomnia, crappy weather, the stress of not finding a mortgage and Vegas leaving on Sunday for a week and how do you like that shit soup, TD? Mmmm, tasty.
I should feed it to the Office Ass with a slingshot.

I should feed it to the Office Ass with a slingshot.

Sloppy seconds, anyone?
As in, second day of dirty rain here in Montreal... not to worry, by tomorrow morning it'll all be cold and snowed up again. Cuz we're cursed that way.
Even the dogs can't be woken up this morning.
I'm so late for work and I wish I cared.
Mleh.
I need something to cheer me up... this should do:
Have a cheery Thursday, everyone!

Who's your superman?
So who was it that carried you through your childhood's dark moments?
Bliss! Happy happy joy joy!
Um, we got the house. I'd scream with joy and take a champagne shower but that'll only happen after we get a mortgage and the house passes inspection. All this should hopefully happen within the next two weeks so stay tuned!
Oh, and thanks for all your encouraging words and thoughts... it's working!

When I need to laugh it all away...
I just head over to The Fail Blog and the side aches I get from bleddy laughing so hard is pretty good medecine. Trust me, you want to see for yourself :-)
Not much in the way of news right now. Worked too hard today and got a pounding headache for my efforts, outide is wheeee an ice rink, the dogs are fine, Vegas' face is black and blue from his manly martial arts (he finally agreed to change sports), blogland seems pretty dead and that's about it.
Oh and we'll know tonight or tomorrow if we got the house or not.
Probably yes, I would assume.
We churned more paperwork for a mortgage and will know by end of the week what the deal is. No banks want to deal with the damn agricultural zonage, wtf man, wtf.
*pauses to sniff aroma of baking chicken pot pie*
Is it just me, or are the prices of foodstuffs just skyrocketing lately? Why is milk so damn expensive and bread unaffordable? Since when do potatoes cost $5 a small bag and the selection of "on sale" items reduced to junk, junk and more junk? How are we supposed to eat healthy when everything costs more and more but salaries don't follow, taxes suck you dry and the economy is in a freefall?

Well... this is it
Our final offer on the property goes out today... and our agent said it would go through by tomorrow which means we're likely gonna be home owners pretty damn soon - my first one! OMG OMG OMG!
No wonder I can't sleep. Sigh.
If the place was all done up and we'd just have to move in and our lives went on as before, there wouldn't be this much stress. But no. I'll be starting my own business, which first has to be built pretty much from the ground up... not to mention all the renovations the house will need during the next five years or so.
So yeah, I get to learn all about architects, contractors, building supplies, tools, project planning, breathing dust and getting chemicals in my hair. Hah!
*so exciting*
Kay, time to get my arse to work - lots to do today and zero gumption to do it. I mean, gaah! Another three and a half months of waiting until my life can really start. Dammit. How do people find the patience?

I never saw it go by
This day.
Where the HELL did it go??
One minute it's morning and I'm trying very hard to get a bit more sleep to make up for the wretched insomnia that's been plaguing me for weeks, and then BAM! It's 9pm and I'm trying to like RocknRolla and failing.
Sorry Guy Ritchie, you spoiled us with Snatch so now you're kinda screwed!
Did some exciting things today. We walked the dogs, bought a new convection oven, did the week's groceries, I cooked a bunch of stuff...
OK yeah, that was sarcastic.
Mind you, we did get a counter-offer back for the property this afternoon so the ball is rolling. We'll end up paying more for it than we want but they'll be selling for less than they wanted, so I guess it's fair.
We're putting in our final offer tomorrow or Monday and if that goes through, then we have to scramble to find a mortgage: thorn in our side, apparently... Sigh. Not sure why it's so difficult but we'll pull through somehow. Still accepting your good positive vibes, so far so good people!
*tries to shrug off some stress*
*not succeeding*
I need to get down on the carpet now and try to stretch the kinks out of my cramping muscles before I start crying from the aches.
Sigh.
This summer can't come fast enough... Fuck the desk job, I'm clocking out and digging my fingers in the dirt for a living, my dream come true in this last year of my 3rd decade on earth.
Proof of providence: got a phone call this afternoon from one of my stepfather's nephews whom I've never heard of before, he had heard through the family grapevine that we were moving out of our city apartment soon - lo and behold, he's looking for a place and ours sounds like a dream, he can't wait to come by and see it.
Hah. Could it be any easier?
Oh, yeah right. A mortgage. That'd be nice.

What's a few more days?
** warning - rambling food-related post below **
Well, the seller has until Saturday night to get back to us with a counter-offer... We're not too nervous though as we know he's willing to sell his property and we've got a bit of room to move, price-wise. Then, we'll find a mortgage one way or the other because hey, we're doing this and we're not afraid of obstacles... If we wanted easy, our love story would never have happened, LOL!*
*new readers: Vegas moved from England last summer to be here with me in Canada, now we're married and looking for more trouble, apparently. He he.
Hey, do any of you ever visit my photography blog? I haven't been updating it much lately because I don't think many people visit...
I can't let it die cuz I think it's so pretty, but whatever.
Our fridge has been miraculously full this week because, ta-daaah! I did some smart cooking on Sunday! I'm always too tired on weeknights to cook so... used my brain, for a change!
Monday we had the meatloaf with the prepared mashed taters, just peeled, julienned and steamed some nantaise carrots for veggies. Finished the wine.
Tuesday, rolled out the pie dough, made a packet of À La King sauce and tossed that with some chopped cooked chicken breast, the cooked cubed potatoes and some canned peas and carrots. Had enough for two lovely pies that cooked golden brown and bubbly in no time. Vegas ate almost an entire one. *rolls eyes*. The other is in the freezer for next week or so.
Tonight, we had the meatloaf again, with some steamed broccoli.
Tomorrow, we'll have the pork chops that I baked with olive oil and onion soup mix, just need to bake some squash to go with that.
We've been lunching on the chowder and still have a bunch of chicken left over, dunno what to do with it... will probably freeze and save for later, there is just too much food and not enough mealtimes. Wow. That's never happened before!
*giggles*
I can only imagine how ridiculous it's going to get once I have my own kitchen and time to use it... I plan on buying a bread machine and planting a small garden next year, btw.
I told Vegas that I'd make some lucky guy a good wife someday. He he.

- Poached some skinless, boneless chicken breasts in a bit of broth. Set them aside for chicken pot pies, used the broth in a yummy ham, potato and corn chowder.
- Made a juicy meatloaf, defrosted some thick pork chops and pie dough.
- Peeled and chopped a bunch of potatoes, used some in the chowder and boiled the rest to be used in the chicken pot pies and as mashed to go with the meatloaf.

Christian Bale's dark side
He he. This is brilliant.
Christian Bale totally flipped out at some idiot DP who ruined his dramatic scene on the set of Terminator: Salvation and of course, someone made a brilliant remix of it... (original flip-out rant can be heard here - enjoy!

The waiting game
And so it begins, let's see what the next 24 hours bring... The seller has our offer in his hands and it could go either way: flat out refusal or the negotiations start. Joo-joo! We needs da joo-joo, people!
Boy, is this ever nerve-wracking. Not only the waiting but the nastiness of trying to secure a mortgage based on the difficult positioning of this property: when you put "commercial zoning" on anything it becomes a bit of a nightmare. But since we need this zoning for the kennel, we'll have to deal with whatever is thrown our way.
Hurdles down: 1
Hurdles left: 23
*runs around flailing arms in the air*
At least I'm not pregnant.

What to do?
So that property we visited on Saturday... we went there wanting to hate it but left with the intention of making an offer.
Oh dear.
Land is very pretty, right size and location (if you ignore the decrepit titty bar next to the driveway entrance... which is supposed to disappear at some point).
The house size is OK, certainly big enough for the two of us. Dog kennel structure is decent and the place has the elusive, rare-as-a-hen's-teeth permit for keeping animals including dogs.
The house, though, needs serious TLC. Big stuff, like windows, kitchen, bathroom, floors, gravel on enormous driveway. I mean it's worn-down, fugly 1970's stuff - yeeechh!
So... We don't really know what to do. We'd need to sink practically all our cash on finishing the kennel and making it into what we need it to be before booking clients and start generating some revenue, so we'd be left with very little to do anything on the house itself.
Don't get me wrong, it's perfectly livable the way it is but you'd need to be blind not to go "yuck" every day. Why brown was such a popular colour in the seventies, I'll never know...
Anyways.
Dunno what to do. I want to make this step ahead and finally change my life around, but I'm afraid of the unknown. I have the real estate agent's offer here, all we need to do is sign it. But. Blah, not sure of anything anymore. It would help if we had more money available to renovate right away and not have to worry about paying bills... Like, what happens if we run out of cash halfway through kennel renovations? We're fucked!
But it is what it is.
*deep breath*
Time to get ready for another Monday, it's warm and sunny, I slept a shitty three hours and am completely shattered. What else is new...

Can't freaking SLEEP! Gah!
I went to bed early to try and finally catch up on many, many hours of lost sleep that have accumulated the past couple of weeks but nooo... Toss, turn. Toss, turn.
#$!?&$%?*!!
So I gave the fuck up and came out to watch the UFC Championship fight with Vegas, just in time to watch GSP totally bitch-dominate BJ Penn in 4 rounds, he he! You go, George! Wear that belt with pride, you've certainly owned it!
Gotta love and be proud of fellow Montrealers :-)
So. In other news.
Today was a motherload on all fronts.
First, Dakotah got hit by a car on the short morning walk. Then Maika and Dakotah both chased and caught (read: killed) a squirrel, now the melonhead sports a swollen lip. Fucking hell.
Then we drove out to see that "low expectations" house and... well... after a two-hour visit... we're putting in an offer!! We're very excited yet cautious and we'll see what happens. We're going in very low, at the risk of insulting the sellers, but we hope they'll see it as an invitation to negotiate so we can meet somewhere in the middle.
As I said before, it ticks most of our "needs" list and some of our "wants", but the place needs serious TLC (ie renos, and lots of them) but that's the main reason it's affordable... We'll just have to suck it up and do what we can, little by little, to transform it into a place we can proudly call home.
So yeah. I won't jinx it by blabbing too much and will keep you posted on what happens... Our real-estate agent will send us the paperwork Monday and whoooosh! The horse is out of the gate! LOL
*deep breath*
Off to bed I go, I hope my stupid brain finally shuts down. Pleeeeease!
