Feels like Sunday

Have to keep reminding myself there's still one more day to the weekend, a very wet and blah one if you look out the windows.

Am happy there's more than enough to keep us busy inside until this passes.

Vegas is en route to the airport with the little one, I shall miss her. We really had a good time the past ten days: camping, horseback riding, playing Scattergories, just hanging out. I'm already looking forward to her visit next year.

What can I say? She's an awesome kid.

They're rare!

I made a slow-oven-cooked marinated blade roast & trimmings for dinner, it turned out lovely I must admit. Almost compensated for the pulled back muscle I inflicted upon myself this morning while carrying the monster little puppy downstairs, gaaaah why did it have to be my right side, too?

Motherflipper!

Speaking of mothers, I miss mine... Had a quick chat with her today, she sounded so tired -she works too hard, she's always worked too hard and can only retire in 3 or so years - she's counting down the days so that's how I know!

If I won the lottery she's one of the first people I would spoil rotten.

She would have had a very different life if she hadn't gotten preggers with me at 17. What can I say? I feel guilty in a way.

Life is crazy right now, but I promise that as soon as it stabilizes I will make an effort to go see her more often. I don't think she knows how much I love her and am proud of her.

I couldn't have wished for a better mom than her, she doesn't exist :)

Ugghh, time to head down to the basement to finish laundry and do some putty work on the new window trims. Wish me patience...

A few vishuals

Got yer reading glasses on? No? Well the pics click bigger so have fun :-)

Stepdaughter and the three doggies in the new park, they loves their auntie!

The famous tent before the Big First Night... funny how this angle shows off the neighbor's houses as if they're right there when in reality they're pretty far away and only on one side of the property, LOL!

Tonight Vegas sleeps in the tent as his daughter flies home tomorrow so it's a great way to end her vacation. Yes, he's making a man of himself :-D

Our lovely contactor with his favorite puppy Dante, aka "E.T" or "Al Dante" depending on his mood! He's a sweet big bear of a man, we're so very lucky to have found him!

Last night we finally set up the new BBQ, here's my husband all decked out for his first manly meal of the summer - if we eat grilled then HE'S making it cuz we all know it's not for wimmins. He he. Grill baby, grill! We had awesome marinated pork fillet, crispy chops and sweet corn which turned out too sticky, so aggravating.

We have a very wet weekend ahead so it'll be dedicated to house chores, painting the basement, movies and food (in no particular order). Maybe a hot bubble bath, maybe a glass of wine?

Oh and we're going live with my business website even if there aren't any pics of the rooms yet, in the hopes that maaaybe perhaaaps I can get a customer or two for end of September as the renos absolutely must be finished in two weeks.

Must. MUST.

Feeling vewy vewy sweepy now, time to grab the broom soon and hit the sheets.

I'm all about sanity

Like, the sanity of pitching the tent this afternoon with my stepdaughter because, you know, summer isn't over if you're still camping.

Even if it's in your back yard.

Even if it's quasi-freezing at night (3C is COLD).

All to the tune of Vegas "tsk-ing" and shaking his head, as he is sure we girls will be scurrying back inside before midnight.

Um, no - we're not wussies like boys are!

He did help set the mood by hooking up our new BBQ for dinner - mmmm tasty marinated pork fillets and roasted corn - but no smores or camp fire cuz, well, did I mention it was freezing outside? Should be soaking in a hot bubble bath instead of getting the sleeping bags and blankets ready but what can I say... Life is short, live it up :-)

I aim to keep the tent up for a week and sleep in it as much as possible, with or without my husband but hey there's always the dogs to keep me warm!

(Vegas hates camping, I aim to cure him of that... I have a few tricks up my shorts, he he)

I'll let you know how it goes tomorrow.

If you don't hear from me, the coyotes were hungry.

In other news, the fencing for the dog park is up *insert hurrahs!* - just need to get the two gates built and set up, the corners braced and the whole 14,000 square feet threaded and tightened so all is stable and won't buckle under the elements... but still! Lookit! (the picture clicks bigger)

Slowly but surely... Key word "slowly" as our contractor isn't coming in tomorrow, dangnabbit. We get a few hours out of him Saturday morning and that's it for this week.

OK that's it for tonight, time to wrap up the day's chores before wrapping us up in quilts under the stars.

Good night.

Ode to madness

Many people say that government is necessary
because some men cannot be trusted to look after themselves,
but anarchists say that government is harmful
because no men can be trusted to look after anyone else.

~Nicolas Walter, About Anarchism

This is how it goes

It goes slower and costs more than whatever you had planned.

And that's the reality, folks.

I was hoping to open my business next week but it's been pushed to at least mid-September and I have no idea how we're going to manage until then or if I'll even get any clients for the first few weeks. Crikey. Hard to make progress when the contractor leaves at noon on Friday, comes back for a short day on Monday, can't be there at all Tuesday... Sigh.

I just see days being wasted away, hours passing by with zero progress and it's as scary as hell.

Wish I had the brawn and the knowledge to finish up the renovations but no, all I can do is hope, nag, push, cajole, panic and nag some more.

I wasn't prepared for all this debt and financial stress :-(

*runs in circles, arms flailing in the air*

Being the house CFO sucks ass.

I may have to resign.

Permanently.

Woo!

This is fun.

Dreaming of freedom.

So Vegas are you up for the job?

Fine, just having fun with stylistics here.

*grin*

Wishing you all a happy hump day, don't work too hard and for those still on vacation (or staycation, like me) well enjoy the spoils cuz summer's almost officially over by "going back to school" standards and I wish I were sad but I'm OK with it all. Despite the crappy weather this year I've enjoyed more green time than ever before :-)

A yey for the hey!

Thanks to a friend's recommendation, I found the best family doctor ever!

Yep, I'm a happy girl... Got a complete physical today and have a battery of tests to get done, am way overdue for blood work and I specially need to monitor my blood pressure... Damn genetics, everyone on both sides is afflicted with high BP so I'm at risk, I have to keep a BP log for a month and send it to the doctor :(

But the good news is that my home scale is a liar!

A few days ago it said I was 130 lbs (we were weighing Dante, otherwise I never get on that piece of crap) and I wasn't shocked, I mean I'm pretty well padded in all the wrong places thanks to copious amounts of junk food.

Doctor's scale today: 121 :-o

She said I am not to lose any more weight, I am borderline too thin.

ROTFLMAO!! I love her!

I'm always eating but I know it's not really nutrition, I need to make an effort to get more fruits & veggies and lean stuff down the hatch, oh to dine on salads if only they made themselves...

I be lazy.

*picks lint off sock*

We finally watched Changeling last night and had I known it would be that good, I would have insisted we watch it ages ago since it has been collecting dust on our shelf for three months...

First, I had no idea it was a Clint Eastwood film. Love Clint.
Second, I had no idea the subject matter would be that gut-wrenching. Love gut.

Highly recommend it for those who are into that sort of movie.

Signs of a life lived

I am beautiful as I am. I am the shape that was gifted.
My breasts are no longer perky and upright like when I was a teenager.
My hips are wider than that of a fashion model's.
For this I am glad, for these are the signs of a life lived.
~Cindy Olsen, co-owner of The Body Objective

Creeeeaaaaak

That's the sound of me trying to haul my carcass around today, oh god do I ever hurt in all the wrong places, LOL!

Horseback riding will do that to a person who hasn't ridden in a decade... yikes. Vegas' daughter had never been on a horse so off we went (Vegas doesn't ride anymore) and we had a really good time - look at the smile on her face (pic clicks way bigger)!
Giddyap!

Today is for lazing... once again we have crappy weather so we're pretty much stuck inside, will have to dust off the board games and finally make that big pot o'spaghetti sauce this afternoon. We have fresh-baked bread for breakfast, a hyper puppy on the floor clamoring for attention and the whole day in front of us going "me! me! make the best of meeee!"

I'm inclined to listen :-)

Renovations still not done so the website launch is postponed (gaaaah!), I'm hoping THIS week will be THE week - dry bank accounts do miracles for the panic button.

*stabs button repeatedly with ghost fingers*

OK time for some hot coffee and a move-on, which is nothing like a hard-on, let's slice that bread, go tend to those hens, feed those dogs and then...

Oh and fuck Photobucket

You see all those beautiful "Upgrade to Pro today" banners splashed all over my blog instead of the usual photos?

Those fuckers at Photobucket just froze my account because I apparently exceeded my free monthly allowance, which I never knew about because in the years I've used them it's always been free - now they want money "or else"!

Greedy bastards.

I guess the millions they rake in with sponsors isn't enough now.

It's beyond annoying and it makes them look bad - do they think that people will stick with them OR sign up knowing what can happen and how they treat you?

Hah! No thanks.

On September 1st I get more bandwidth so pics will show up normally on my blog again but fuck them - I'm moving to another service for any new photo that will show up here, kthanx!

All I have today is boobage

I must be slipping and slacking in my morals today because I just snapped this pic off my webcam to show my misery in this suffocatingly humid heat after 2 hours of choppy sleep last night, this is what I got:
Semi-boobage. It's too hot for anything else, mkay? DWI!

In other news, Vegas' daughter is visiting from the UK for 10 days and we had to go buy her rubber boots yesterday because of all the rain and crap everywhere - nice souvenir to bring home, eh? LOL

The basement renos are almost done!

By middle of next week we should celebrate with the launch of my business website, oh please send us good mojo! Moooooojooooo!

OK going to make yummy hamburgers for lunch, the troops are starving.

Yecchh!

Finally found out why Dakotah, our big boy, has been sticky and stinking like a ripe garbage truck the past three days...

He caught a massive case of the dreaded hot spots! Oozing bloody sores all over his body from nose to tail, the poor bastard.

He's on meds for the next couple of weeks, he's been blow-dried, powdered and we have to keep him dry until he heals - no mean feat in this stinking jungle weather where everything wilts from extreme humidity in 10 seconds flat.

UUUGGHH!

At least the other two dogs are fine, that's a relief.

Hey Frank, I hope you're reading this cuz look what I found for you: 13 things made of bacon that shouldn't be - he he! Sorry no refunds.

So.

We officially became house-poor today.

F'cking hell.

Maybe I could go sell hand-jobs behind the mall to make ends meet until the renovations are done and I can start boarding dogs... if anyone wants to board with us in the first place.

Gaaah I hate it when doubt sets in - this will work, I know it will work, it has to work!

*wrings hands*

My goodness these sour jellybeans are awesome - juicy and saliva-inducing shots of chewy sugar, what's not to love? Change of subjects are also good, very good.

What do people eat in this godforsaken weather? We did the cold pasta salad thing, the boiled eggs thing, and are now living off toast and cereal with the occasional fruit or bag of chips thrown in. I forget what a vitamin looks like! :-o

Anyhoo. I got nothing in the creative tank and I'm sure you're feeling it, so let's just call it a night and start again tomorrow, yes? Yes! Love from the couch!

If you can't beat 'em...

...pay someone else to?

LOL kidding.

Still super hot but a bit overcast and there's a breeze so it's a good day - finally got myself outfitted with proper swim shorts and a bikini top this morning so working on my tan and not sweating like a trucker feels good for once.

Woo!

Today's menu included sleeping late, a lazy terrace brunch (mmm omelet was so good!), shopping and now lawn mowing, car washing and hoovering cuz yesterday was a write-off. Well OK we did assemble the /$%"!$ BBQ that had been sitting in its giant box the past two months... and yes we got a propane tank this morning but didn't get it filled. Ha!

Rome wasn't built in a day... and neither is this place, eh.

Am making a veggie pasta salad for dinner and then we'll call it a day.

Yey summer!

Same old relentless

This jungle heat is just stupid.

It's making me stupid with sweat, headaches and crabbiness.

Tried working outside for an hour this morning and stopped two seconds short of getting a severe heat stroke - GAAAH! So I guess this is another day spent inside, doing house-wifey things like hoovering the flying dog-hair buffaloes and laundry.

Then we all head out to the lake, as soon as puppy Dante has digested his huge breakfast of two raw chicken legs.

I never thought he'd eat BOTH of them!

He looks like a barrel of beer with four deer legs.

List of useful things I did yesterday:

1.
2.
3.
4.

I should just drag my husband to bed for some hot sweaty sex, I mean we're drenched anyways so why not make it fun?

This isn't summer, it's Satan's Asshole after a Mexican lunch.

Just sayin'.

On a parting note, I give you another gem sent to me by Vegas (he gets forwarded the most brutal things!), warning it's extremely racist but if you can get through the first 30 seconds, I dare you to not laugh your ass off! Remember it's a parody, OK? And... For adults only, you kids be warned.

What? It's fucking hilarious! :-D

Now I'll have that tune stuck in my head all day,I guess it's as good as anything. Do the ching chang chong! Or not, if you're into line dancing.

If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen!

Ah, summer, what power you have to make us suffer and like it.
~Russel Baker

What a way to start the day

Vegas posted this gem on facebook this morning and I gave it a whirl, ended up getting all teary-eyed - it is that beautiful and incredible to watch. Some people have so much talent it's scary (plus she's gorgeous, too):

Is that a beautiful homage, or what?

So. Vegas is back from Boston but gone again for a day of work in the city, which means I'm stuck here in the stinking relentless heat with three panting dogs and no way to get to the lake.

This sucks.

Needless to say I'm exhausted, have a headache and am sick of being overheated, am tempted to spend most of this day sleeping. I can't go anywhere (no car) and I can't do anything outside, too hot for any cooking or housework - what the hell is left?

Autumn can't come fast enough...

Oh wait!

We have a garden hose :-D

At least last night's salad was good, the freezer is full of popsicles and there's lemonade and beer in the fridge (shandies!), I made fresh bread this morning for Vegas who isn't even having any due to an upset tummy so all the more for me. Yey?

Life is good, life is good - repeat.

Edited to add: Just went to the mailbox and had a lovely "welcome home" parcel in there from my lovely friend Sophie - only she could come up with stuff like this, LOL! Awe! It made my day, as much for the beautiful gift as for the thought and love that went into it. I feel blessed! Thank you cocotteski!

Summertime

Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high

Oh, Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry

One of these mornings
You're going to rise up singing
Then you'll spread your wings
And you'll take to the sky

But until that morning
There's a'nothing can harm you
With your daddy and mammy standing by

Summertime,
And the livin' is easy
Fish are jumpin'
And the cotton is high

Your daddy's rich
And your mamma's good lookin'
So hush little baby
Don't you cry

~George Gershwin

French fries

That's what we all are here today: french and frying in this ridiculous heat & humidity. So far, the days this summer can be boiled down to this:

-about to rain: muggy and full of ravenous bugs
-raining, thunder-storming, drizzling
-after rain: everything soggy, boggy and full of super-ravenous bugs
-super hot burning sun & humidity combo, making the ravenous bugs super ravenous

...and about two days of nice normal sun, humidity with slight breeze.

How the fuck are we supposed to enjoy being outside? You need an air-conditioned, waterproof, bug-proof spacesuit the minute you step out the door! ARGH!

And as much as I love this house and its heat-retaining abilities thanks to the concrete walls, well that's no good in summer is it now.

*sweat trickles uncomfortably between breasts*

Last night I nearly brained myself on a beam in the basement. I was putting boxes under the little storage crawl-space beneath the stairs and stood up without thinking of the ceiling height...

I heard the crack and then felt the searing pain as I sat there on the floor, dazed, a chip of molar on my tongue.

Must. Not. Pass. Out.
Must. Not. Pass. Out.

See, these things only happen to me at the most inappropriate of times (not that there is any appropriate time to crack your skull on a wood beam...) - Vegas is gone on a business trip until late tonight so I'm on my own.

Nursing a wicked prune and a migraine.

Then.

This morning I was painting the underside of a big piece of plywood that covers one of the chicken coop windows, the wood is on hinges and held up (open) with a bit of wire... somehow that HAD to slip and whack the freshly-painted slab of wood on my head - yep same spot as last night, only this time my hair is full of white paint.

Go on, laugh -it is funny in a Mr. Bean kinda way!

But god, I need to refill that bottle of extra-strength Advil.

So far today I've eaten a peanut-butter toast with a tiny glass of orange juice and a latte, then some lemonade with chips (Munchos! yum!), a cucumber, a peach and a pack of Oh! Caramel! snack cakes. The dogs are eating better than I am.

Will make an effort to have a salad for dinner, I got lots of greens at the market this morning so am inspired to do some good.

Vegas come home! I miss you!

Lullaby

He does not need opium. He has the gift of reverie.
~Anais Nin

Ah yes, that's much better!

Am having a pretty good day, despite a rough start - the skies have cleared, the humidity has abated somewhat and the sun is hitting hard: all ingredients of a good summer day!

The basement renos are coming along slowly but surely, the walls should all be done by tomorrow (too humid for the putty to dry, how annoying) and then we start work on the ceiling and the stairs. Then the paint, the lights, the trim, the gates on the doors and a bunch of other small stuff and WE'RE DONE!!

My office is ready and my website is almost ready to go... almost.

Our contractor put the fence posts in for our big dog park this morning and as I stood in it at lunchtime, looking around, it just felt blah to me. Too small and definitely not the "wow" factor I was looking for.

So I asked Vegas for his opinion on what to do, we checked out the land and what was feasible and decided to expand another 50 feet towards the paddocks we had cleared a few weeks ago.

Hot damn we have the land, let's use it!

The new fence posts are all in place now, I need to paint them as the metal is rusted in some places (we re-used the vine posts), then more brush-cutting, lawn mowing and vine extraction - sweaty job - and next week the fence goes UP!

OMG I'm so excited!

For the first time since we moved here I can actually see what it will all look like and can project to open my dog hotel in a few weeks!

*happy dance*

Vegas is gone to Boston until tomorrow night on bidness (he he), the doggies are too hot to get into trouble so I'll just keep chugging away at tasks... The new horse gate needs one more coat of paint, I have to clear out the cold room in the basement (we threw all our moving boxes in there, it's chaos!) and bring in the load of laundry that's outside drying in the warm breeze.

Is there a better scent than clothes fresh from the line?

OK besides fresh baked bread! LOL

Tomorrow is another day, maaaaaayybe one without a freaking headache (day five right now) and oh, I just noticed that I have no wine for tonight.

*sad face*

I'm full of love right now.

Love for my hubby, who did a really awesome job at finally cleaning up his stuff aka "man crap" this morning (I happy!).
Love for my doggies, who are all behaving so well and keeping me good company.
Love for this beautiful summer day, what a treat to have no ominous soggy storms!
Love for this first house, which is so very special and beautifully rewarding.

Love for too many things to mention without getting all mushy!

You should be happy I'm in a good mood, yesterday was MISERABLE and I nearly poked out my own eyes out of annoyance with the world. You know those days when you're in a shitty mood for no reason, so that puts you in even more of a shitty mood?

Yeah, that.

So at 4pm I had chocolate cake and red wine.

Seems to have worked!

OK back to jobbing - don't forget to vote on the new poll, you want to, I know you want to.

Sadness is almost never anything but a form of fatigue.
~Andre Gide

Passing the word around...

I promised Frank Slept Here to help his sister Rachel spread the word so here is an excerpt from his blog... thanks for reading and for doing everything you can to spread the word.

[...]gay rights is something I'm all for. Normally I try not to get too political on this blog, so I'm going to let my sister do most of the talking. She's well-established in the family as the "busiest unemployed person," and lately she's devoted herself full-on to the gay rights movement. At the moment her main focus is a grassroots movement to raise money and recruit people for the upcoming March on Washington. Here's what she's asked me to post:

This is the most important post I have ever written.
I am asking for your help.
I need the help of my regulars, my lurkers, my scanners, my haters.
I need you to help me spread the word.

As many of you know I am heavily involved in the March on DC for LGBTQ equal federal rights (http://www.nationalmarchforequality.com). I am involved in the Chicago chapter of Join The Impact (http://www.jointheimpactchicago.com), but this March goes further than the borders of Chicagoland. There are LGBTQ needing help, needing support all over the country. This March is for them.

We are not marching for gay marriage, we are not marching to hate on the Bible, we are marching to get federal rights for all of America's citizens.

We are marching so that a person who fights and risks their lives for their country should be able to carry a picture of their partner in the uniform.

We are marching so that when a gay man gets beaten and tied to a fence post to die it is considered a hate crime.

We are marching so that a good teacher will not lose her job because she loves another woman.

We are marching so that a senior citizen can honor the wishes of their partner of 50 years when they get seriously ill and be allowed to stay by their bedside to provide comfort.

Cleve Jones is hoping to have every district in the country represented at Washington DC. To do that we need to get people there. How can you help?

*if you live in the Chicago area or are willing to travel to Chicago you can join me! For $100 (given to JTI Chicago) you can get on a bus Saturday night, march on DC Sunday, be back home early Monday morning. I'm going! We can watch movies, talk, take a million pictures, do some good! What a way to start your fall!

*if you can't make it but want to help you can donate! See that beautiful yellow paypal button? For the price of a beer or a coffee you can help someone that can't afford to go, someone that desperately needs to find some support. This money is NOT for me, all money will go to JTI Chicago which they put towards getting people on buses.

*if you can't spare the funds you can help spread the word! Post this post on your blog. Reference this if you write a post in your own words. Link to it. Tweet about it (#mominreallifefundraiser). Tumblr it. Facebook it. Digg/Stumble/Reddit it. I don't care what, just keep it going. Be honest, how much work does it take? Let those know out there that you want to help!

Help me help them.

Please.

Note: if you wish to donate, please go to Rachel's page and follow the link there.[...]

Flowering beauty

If you've never been thrilled to the very edges of your soul by a flower in spring bloom,
maybe your soul has never been in bloom.
~Audra Foveo

The tank is getting empty

The blogging tank, I mean...

I can't blog about stuff I'm not living, such as cosmopolitan adventures, road trips or life-altering events - unless I make up stories :-D - so how many posts about gardening, dogs and renos can I put up here before I roll over snoring?

I'm never online long enough to get philosophical or nostalgic and, truth is, my mind's not going so deep these days, it all seems to revolve around "getting stuff done" rather than "thinking about stuff". Lord knows there was more than enough waiting/thinking time the past five years of my life so no complaints here, on the contrary.

It feels great to be in fifth gear!

All I can do here is to share the journey with you, the ups and the downs and the sideways, and hope you don't get motion sickness LOL!

I've been posting a few pics on my photo blog and really, really need to update the recipe blog... I made a nice potato and cheese pie for lunch today oh nummers and I'm sure all you cooks would jump on it, trust me it was super good :) I'll have to photograph the leftovers. Wait, are there any?!

Fine, I'm blabbing.

I'll go now before my head explodes - happy Monday, peeps!

PS: THE POLL CLOSES TONIGHT, GO CAST YER VOTES!

Sunday is for brunchins'

We're having friends over for brunch, yay!

The bread machine is chugging away and later on I'll prepare a lovely fritatta with bacon and fresh fruit on the side, my mom's homemade strawberry jam, we'll drink mimosas and large amounts of coffee, coffee, drink of the gods.

Pray the skies hold their pee so we can sit out on the deck for a bit... Still have a mountain of garden work to sink our pickaxes into so yeah, it's a good day.

Oh and I felt a lot better looking into the mirror this morning after viewing this montage (it gets really good at minute three, check it out!):

Happy Sunday, girls! (and the lone boy or two who reads this)

Spirits lifted...

A good remedy to the blues is a) the sun peeking out from the heavy clouds and b) a silly puppy and his antics... and not necessarily in that order!

Consider this your Friday goodie!

It's already October

...well it sure feels like it. Single-digit overnight temps (in Celcius), cold and rainy and grey this morning. Blah.

I went to bed too late, got up too late, am aching, groggy and on PMS - you do the math.

*sips hot latte*

Like they say, "a morning without coffee is like sleep".

Amen to that.

The contractor is finally starting work on the basement walls & ceiling, it's mo-fo loud but it needs to be done because if I don't start earning money soon with this dog business, we can't pay our bills. End of story.

Budget, what budget?

*laughs hysterically*

I'm sleepy. I've got to run to the store to buy more construction supplies, insulate the back of the chicken coop if it stops raining, Dante has a vet appointment this afternoon for his shots & microchipping and I don't feel like doing any of it.

I think it was last night's hot bubble bath that did it... First one since we moved here and oh, it was bliss. You could fit a baby elephant in that tub, it's huge!

Sleep.

I desire it, badly.

Happy Friday, everyone - and don't listen to my bitchins, they'll pass.

Want to go outside?

What's for dinner?

I love you.
Watch this!
Is it raining again?
It's raining again.
We should plant rice in those fields.
Look what you did.

The promised photos :)

Here's a snapshot of Chez TechnoVegas on a lovely summer day! All pics click bigger if you want to see details n'stuff. I think.
First, the hens enjoying some fresh clover (they think it's crack):

The vineyard, all cleaned up:

Part of the back yard after a tree trim and a fresh mow:

The new dog run, what a treat! The dirt patch is where the old run used to stop, there were plants and rocks there that I moved to the side:

The new deck, with view on some of the freshly-cleared paddocks:

Vegas enjoying a puppy kiss, mmmm mmm!

Yey the big guy is down, let me at him!

Daddy loves his little boy:

In a few months this scene will be quite different, size-wise! LOL

The beginnings of a great friendship... Maika is slooowly warming up to her little bro!

Yep, a working breed starts very young... Dante LOVES "helping" me clear the gardens!

Dakotah showing off his grasshopper skills - amazing to see after such a big knee surgery a year ago, eh? We call him the bionic dog, ha ha!

Happy family in the green... You couldn't pay us to ever live in the freaking city again!

Dante a few days shy of 10 weeks old, weighing approx. 23 lbs. He's small but he's heavy!

How could you not love this happy mug?

Hope you enjoyed the pics as much as I enjoyed taking them and sharing them with you - I'll post more later this month as the renos come along!

Today Vegas is working in the city so I'm helping the contractor set up the new paddock perimeters, the horse shelter should be up this week so finally that French twat can stop harassing me about stuff. All that for a measly $100 a month - she's got issues, I tell you.

Don't. Disrespect. The. Doll.

Happy Hump Day, everyone!

Got sideswiped by stuff

I have to delay the photo post until tomorrow, today's events just sucked up all my time and it's now too late and my brain is too fried to put a fun post up.

Plus I'm starving, dinner's been simmering on the stove for the past 45 minutes and it's time to EAT cuz this delicious smell is turning my saliva glands into Niagra Falls. Pass me the bib.

Vegas let me sleep until 8:20am this morning and when he gently shook me awake, I was in the middle of a dream where he had let me sleep until 10:40am.

That's the kind of day it was.

Call me Groggy McGrog.

Besides the usual, today the woman who's boarding her horse here tried to feed me a shit sandwich because I asked her (nicely) for the August rent this morning, as she had not paid it yet. I won't go into the details, I'm too pissed off - suffice to say she's a fucking liar, she thinks she still owns the place, she wants everything for nothing and I'm getting really fed up with her attitude and demands.

Who the hell does she think she is?!

One more comment out of her and I will tell her (nicely, again) that she is free to go board elsewhere if she likes.

This bird's for you, and this bird's for your horse.

Get it?

Thankfully my mom came by with my grandmother for a short and unexpected visit, so that helped to make up for the unpleasantness that is Miss Frenchie Highhorse.

Time for dinner, a shandie and a long hot shower, I'm beat.

G'nite, world.

Big photo post tomorrow :)

The light was perfect for snapping pics of the kids (fur & feather) as well as the green improvements around here... Stay tuned for some pics tomorrow!

Happy puppy Dante with his dad, above, and growing silkie hen Blossom below:

Yey for beautiful summer days!

I used to hate those heat bugs but now they're just music to my ears

How about that for a blog post title? :-)

We finally have a table & chairs on the finished deck, the dogs are secure in the attached dog run and aaaah - beyond awesome when the sun decides to grant us with its presence!

Nope, you couldn't pay me to ever live in the city again.

Ever.

Yesterday's family picnic went on despite the pouring rain, we huddled under awnings and makeshift tents and umbrellas, we got wet but the party carried on and eventually the weather dried up so both people and bugs could enjoy the great outdoors, the pool, the bonfire, the wet grass. Dad and my stepmom came back with us to sleep over as they live five hours away in Ontario, they just left after we all went out for breakfast this morning (steamies and poutine, what else? LOL).

What? It's a tradition!

My dad said he was proud of me... Is it wrong to feel really happy about that at my age??

*short pause to drink in the breeze caressing the trees*

It's so damn gorgeous out today, I'm taking it easy. Just some light weeding, playing with the dogs, the hens, tidying up and cooking a couple batches of food for the week.

I may be short on a couple hours of sleep since short crust (aka Dante) needed his 6:30am potty break and it was my turn this morning to brave the dew. At least the cool breeze is keeping the effing mosquitoes away. Yey!

OK my mind's not on blogging or thinking right now, I just want to be a butterfly so I bid you aurevoir and hope Monday is kind to you all!

But of course!

Sure God created man before woman.
But then you always make a rough draft before the final masterpiece.
~Author Unknown

It figures...

Friday & Saturday (the past two days): lovely warm sun with cool breeze
Monday (tomorrow): lovely warm sun with cool breeze
Sunday (today): muggy, humid and 100% rain & thunderstorms this afternoon

Figures it would happen on the day of my family's annual picnic.

GAAAAAAAAH!

On wisdom

How can you be a sage if you're pretty?
You can't get your wizard papers without wrinkles.
~Bill Veeck

It's out! It's ooooouuuut!

The sun! I see the sun!

And it's supposed to stick around all daaaay, wooooohooo!

Guess who's going to indulge in yard work today, in between bouts of scrubbing the house in preparation of tomorrow's visitors!

OK there's dog care to mix in there too since the big ones need their exercise and the little one is recuperating from a harrowing day - he inhaled his breakfast half-chewed yesterday and it got stuck on the way out... Poor puppy strained for 45 minutes in the afternoon to dislodge the bone and got an abscessed and bleeding butt, we had to bring him to the vet on an emergency call in the evening and oh, he was SUCH a good little man to endure all that probing - ouch!!

We went home with antibiotics and anti-inflammatory meds, I gave him a couple doses of slippery elm and this morning he's almost back to his normal self, despite the huge swelled arse (don't laugh it's not funny).

Ah yeah, the trials and tribulations of pet ownership...

They're worth every minute of it though :-)

OK coffee's down the hatch, time to get dressed and get going - yesterday was miserably wet and I want to make up for all that time I was stuck inside!
