You're gonna love this...

Well here we go again...

Daring To Dream has tagged me for a meme, who am I to say no when I have a few spare minutes (miracle!):

The rules:

1. Link to the person who tagged you and post the rules on your blog
2. Share 5 songs you are embarrassed to admit to others that you like and tell why
3. Tag a few people at the end of your post

Billie Jean - Michael Jackson. It's what I grew up with, mkay? He was awesome when he was still black and "normal". Nuff said.

My Heart Goes Bang - Dead or Alive. Hey it was the 80's and trannies were hot. NEXT!

Love Bites - Def Leppard. It was 1988, it was a teenage crush, it was silly and it was a power trip. Highly embarassing yet you'll catch me singing right along when it plays on the radio... who wouldn't?

Vogue - Madonna. Because I just hate that bitch... why do I love some of her songs? Drives me crazy! Argh!

What Is Love - Haddaway. Jesus on a pogo stick, what a stupid song. Tied to a famously stupid movie (Night at the Roxbury). Yet, it crawls into your head like a worm and infects your arse and legs and boom bop bop, there you go when it plays... sigh.

There you go. I can't tag anybody specific lest I risk getting poisonous darts shot at my head but if anyone wants to take a stab at this... gowon, impress meh!

/end of Highly Embarassing post/

Yes, please

I'd give all wealth that years have piled,
The slow result of Life's decay,
To be once more a little child
For one bright summer day.
~Lewis Carroll, "Solitude"

Performance goals vs bullWHAT?

I'm wracking my brain trying to come up with something, anything to fill in the mile-long bullshit performance review document this company has just come up with, what a nightmare!

Each goal must be stated in a quantifiable and measurable format (e.g., quantity, magnitude, timeliness, cost, quality, etc.) and the expected behaviors (e.g., work collaboratively, listen to customers, demonstrate judgment, etc.).

Fuck! Speak English for crissake!

I hate these things with a passion.

My head is spinning with stabbing pain (Vegas says I have to learn to ask for massages and not expect him to offer them... this is when I miss my ex), it's again a sauna outside and hrmph, I just don't feel like smiling at the world today except to kiss its ass. Which doesn't taste like chocklit.

I know what the problem is: our bed is just too damn comfy, that's what. It takes superhuman effort to wrench ourselves out if its cooshy embrace at 6:30am - so take my word, don't buy a latex mattress or you too will suffer!

Mouahahahhaha.

OK, time for a 2nd coffee and attacking the pile of work on my desk, all the while doing half-hearted ab work on my chair to the tune of screaming kids outside in the playground near the office.

I miss being a kid, I really do. Remember summer days with popsicles melting all over your hands and you didn't care? No worries about unshaven legs or messy hair back then, either. No period cramps, spotty faces or maladjusted bras and who ever cared if you had garlic breath? No to-do lists that involved ironing or cleaning the toilet, no errands to run or dog poop to pick up.

Ah yes. Those were the days.

Take me away

Sigh. Today is one of those days where outside beckons and my soul longs for freedom... so not fair to have to work through an entire summer, specially when summer here is so short!

Sometimes routine feels like a vise around my neck - what can I say? I work to live, just like everybody else, but where are the free hours to enjoy this life? You know? Weekends have been very tempermental weather-wise so planning any outside activities is a risk but am crossing fingers that this Saturday will finally be different.

Family corn boil and I can't miss that! Mmmm first fresh sweet corn crop... been waiting for it since last September. Bring. It. On!!

Into a coma.

Haiku Tuesday

Outside beckons

Find your Garden of Eden

"Everybody needs beauty as well as bread,
places to play in and pray in, where nature may heal
and give strength to body and soul."
~John Muir

Today's happy mug is brought to you by...

...Melonhead himself! And his pitbull sidekick Byron, who is afraid the goofyness might be contagious (click to see the expression):

Who ever said doggies have no sense of humour? *grin*

We're all adapting to the routine now, Dakotah doesn't seem quite so lost and confused when we leave after visiting him twice a day; his leg is improving remarkably fast and I am thrilled that he is keeping his meals down. I think we are over the worse bit now. Three cheers!

Dammit I am all out of chockit.

Gasp!

*rummages through all drawers*

Nope, nothing. Gonna have to go for a walk after lunch to stock up, this is just nonsense! If I can only get Hershey to send me a giant box of stuff, now that would be awesome. Yeeaaah!

One can dream, no?

Well... it's Monday, I've no dramaahhs to report and no sexcapades to brag about (that will come later, with the shoes - see below post!). Am fighting to get a raise at work cuz after six years of nothing, I'm at my wit's end - I mean who would endure that, WTF? Tactics people, I need tactics!

OK. Time for lunch of thick yummy soup (homemade spicy chicken stock, new potato chunks, lentils, sliced parsnips, fennel and celeri, italian sausage, fresh dill). Durlicious, lip-smacking and off I go!

Party shoes? Check!

So, what do you think?

*grin*

If you saw the dress that goes with it, you'd understand... reeerrr! Plus with those on, I don't feel quite so short next to Vegas. Oh and he chose them for me, so... Double reeeeer!

/end of Sexaaay Meow Shoes post/

Mamma Mia!

The one good thing about crappy weather on weekends is that you don't feel guilty spending an afternoon at the cinema. Right? Right.

My friend N hauled my butt in to see Mama Mia, more as an excuse to see the movie for the 4th time than anything else I think. Did I like it? I suppose so, in between the oka swiss marbled cheddar scenes. I love Abba as much as anybody else who grew up with them so that somewhat tempered the whole thing, but in a nutshell:

Liked: Meryl Streep, the stunning Greek scenery, the costumes and the story (fatherless girl getting married at 20, finds her mother's diary which detailed a torrid summer with three men so she has no clue which one of them is her dad, she invites them all and they show up - you get the idea of the mess!).

Didn't like: All the shouting, screaming, corny line dancing and utter chaos that reigned during the majority of the film.

It was too much of a chick flick even for me, so... be warned :-)

Next up in the evening was "Superhero Movie", the dumbest thing we had laying around (don't ask). Um. Farts, crotch bopping, more farts, styrofoam brick walls, bad acting, bad effects, bad script, even more farts and very little laughter. Superdud, The Movie. 70 minutes of your life down the drain.

Today was a family picnic out in the countryside but yet again I had to miss out cuz of a crushing migraine. Thank the frigg for Vegas, who went to take care of Melonhead this morning while I tried to get more sleep. Even drugs don't help at this point. Ugggh.

Figures that it's beautiful out today, too.

Am feeling better now but still on the verge of pain so need to take it easy. We ran a few errands and had a nice lunch (I made chocolate espresso milkshakes for dessert), he's also fighting a headache so WTF is going on! Barometric pressure absurdities, no doubt. Anybody else clutching their temples today?

OK time to go pick up my new supersexy dress, I had it altered and it's ready now. August 12th is our huge party at Club 740 in Los Angeles, it's going to be a blast! All I need now are red shoes that aren't flats nor ridiculous stilettos - you've no idea how hard those are to find. Shoemakers of the world, are you listening?? How about us girls who want a small sexy comfortable heel, huh? We exist in droves you know!

Jerks.

Fortitude

"The walls we build around us to keep sadness out
also keeps out the joy."
~Jim Rohn

What. The. HELL!

I just got my replacement driver's license (since my wallet was stolen Sunday) and OMG!! nooooooooooooooooo!

Was their camera lens warped? I mean, I know I looked like shit on Monday because of stress, heat and humidity but how on earth did they make me look like I have Down's Syndrome?! The bad hair, I accept. The rubbed-out eyes too. But my god - that is not my face :-(

The kicker?

I have to keep this one until 2014. I think I will accidentally "lose" this fucking license quite soon in the office shredder - what a horror. I can't carry that thing around for the next 6 years, I'll fall into a depression!

/end of I Give Up post/

Are those cherries in your face?

No, they're my eyes.

Leave me alone!

*rolls cherry red eyes*

I need to get some sleep. Seriously.

The patient patient

He was soooo happy to come home... went a bit nutters when he saw us at the vets, washed our faces and nibbled ears (as he loves to do), had a shit-eating smile on his face during the ride home - face in the wind - ah, hims a tough little bugger...

No way could I walk after such a surgery! But yet he's putting weight on the leg like a trooper, letting me do his physio (although he wasn't too fond of the ice pack) and it's hard to keep him quiet.

My dogsitter just called, poor beanie is having the heaves but has kept his dinner down so far, all these meds are just a bit much for him and I suppose the stress and excitement of coming home doesn't help. Well he's not home-home... oh, the look on his mug when I left tonight with Maika - almost broke my heart. "what? you're abandoning me again?"

Have to get up at 6:30am tomorrow and for every work day after that for a month. Sigh. Not a morning person, really really NOT a morning person.

But for him it's not even a sacrifice.

It's an honour.

/end of Early To Bed post/

What does $4,500 look like?

It looks something like this... (click on the pics for a bigger view, if you're not squeamish)!

Melonhead went nuts when he saw us, so I guess he forgave us for the trauma... the whole ride home he had his face stretched towards the open car window, just breathing in freedom.

I'll post pics of him later... he's now resting in his crate at my friend's place, tonight we start the daily routine of going over to feed him, give his meds & physiotherapy, bio break, ice packs, etc. But oh! The dirty look he gave us when we left - sigh.

*deep breath, repeat mantra: I am a good mommy! I am a good mommy!*

/end of So Happy He's Home! post/

When the brain needs a fart...

Here are some movies I can (and do) watch over and over again when I need to empty my brain and just fall into the magic/laughs/romance/dramah...

Bad Santa
Romeo and Juliet
Kung Fu Hustle
Spinal Tap
Black Stallion
Iron Giant
The Abyss

...I could write down fifty more but you get the idea - do you have favorites or can you only watch a movie once and then that's it? (like my dad, LOL) As you can see I wouldn't mind a bit of a mental getaway right now.

!!Good news!!

The vet just called and melonhead is ready to come home! woooo!

We'll go get him at lunchtime and finally the long rehab process can begin. My friend's place is ready, the ramp is in place and we'll work out a daily routine soon enough - time marches forward, life is good and I am so grateful for all the love, support and encouragement you've all sent our way *sniff*

I may have to thank you with some melonhead pics later - brought my camera with me and hope to remember to use it :-)

I am a warm banana muffin.

Ode to my melonhead

"You ask of my companions. Hills, sir, and the sundown,
and a dog as large as myself that my father bought me.
They are better than human beings,
because they know but do not tell."
~Emily Dickinson

Still no Dakotah tonight :-(

Sigh. Melonhead is still in the intensive care unit, doing better but not good enough to come home. Ate least he ate a bit this afternoon but the vet techs had to hand-feed him.

If all goes well, we can go get him tomorrow at lunchtime... he's been gone since Monday night.

Miss him like hell.

Strength in unity

I am soooo lucky to have such amazing friends like my dogsitter and Vegas, of course!

Seriously, I have no idea how I would manage the twisted logistics all by my own but with teamwork, the elephant in the oven is reduced to bite-sized morsels... Need to keep taking life one day at a time, then one more day at a time. Yeah.

The vet called this morning to say Dakotah is still off his tits and that is surprising them a bit - he is übersensitive to anaesthesia and is having a hard time coming back to reality, unlike most other dogs. Sigh. Poor beanie.

He just wants to sleep, won't eat and won't drink so he's getting quite weak despite the IV drip.

They will slowly wean him off the drugs this morning and we'll see what happens. They won't release him until he can walk and his eyes are clear or that is risking a disaster.

Please keep him in your good thoughts, I hope he can come home tonight but will only find out later today... sigh. It's hard not to feel like a bad parent but we had no choice, it had to be done. *cries*

In other news, it's still London weather today and for the next while, I don't mind much since I have to work anyways but I feel sorry for all those people on vacation! "Hey Jimmy, want to swim in the lake?" "Yeah sure, but watch out for the lighteninzaaaaaaaaaaaaappppp!"

He he.

Vegas holds conversations with himself in his sleep. It's really funny, half of it is English and the other half sounds like Ugandan slang:

"What?"
"What happened?"
"Gulaug"
"Glu glu glu glu gulaug!"

If only I could make this up, but nope. It's all for real. I love that man, even in the middle of the night he makes me smile!

Soldier on!

"It's not easy taking my problems one at a time
when they refuse to get in line."
~Ashleigh Brilliant

Huge sigh of relief

I can breathe a bit easier now...

The awesome vet called right after melonhead's surgery to say everything went very well, post-op xrays shows the metal plate is right where it should be, anaesthesia went as planned (doggy was part of a new study group, he got an epidural, femural block, new type of gas, etc) and everyone is very impressed at how laid-back, cooperative and sweet Dakotah is. That's my boy!

For the next 12 hours, the anaesthesiologist will be by his side to monitor his vitals, take more blood tests, make sure he is A-OK so at least he won't be alone for a while, that makes me feel better.

Oh and yeah, his cruciate ligaments were completely ruptured, also had damage to his meniscus (knee cartilage) so they had to do some extra work to try and prevent future damage to that part of his knee.

His lower leg got straightened a good 15 degrees, he now has a proper alignment and will walk a tad differently until his body adjusts... no more twisting leg when he pees :-)

Poor beanie. Let the healing begin!

Tonight we need to haul his ginormous crate over to my dogsitter's, then go to Home Depot to buy a 10-foot long bit of plywood and some rubber padding to build a ramp in his stairs (he lives in a sub-basement appartment, there are about 7 to 8 stairs up to the sidewalk) and then, god willing, we'll be all set to get the patient home tomorrow night.

I'll try to post some pics of Mister Chicken Leg in a couple of days, after his drugs have worn off. Mamma Mia! What an adventure!

/end of Yay Doggie Is OK post/

Listen to the cards?

Sweet T told me to go look at my horoscope for today cuz it was so bang-on... Of course I had to go peek:

Astrology said: "This is a time of tremendous psychological growth, which can lead to great personal success if you follow through with it. Money may be tight but it is a temporary condition. You will have to watch your funds very closely over the next few days. A difficult job is still giving you trouble but will become much easier as time goes by."

And my tarot cards: "The Wheel of Fortune deals with the unpredictable situations in life. Your path in life takes many detours, often directed by forces and events beyond your control. This card represents change in your life, so be ready for unexpected challenges to come your way. This card usually denotes that good luck is coming your way."

Yeah, well. I could have written that myself! Sigh. My stomach is in knots as I write this, melonhead is on the operation table and even if I know he is in very competent and caring hands, I am still a nervous wreck. It just wasn't the same this morning without mister rooo rooo waggy butt greeting the day with his goofy exhuberance. :-(

Anyways. I will post news as soon as I have some later today... and will also try to smile so am digging for humorous bits to share - dig dig dig.

Sigh.

"I had a lover's quarrel with the world."
~Robert Frost, The Lesson for Today, 1942

Want a good laugh?

They say when it rains, it pours - in my case it's not even a figure of speech FFS!

After the day's dramah of trying to replace the contents of a lost wallet (minus the funds, cost me over $100 to get new cards and buy a new wallet, etc) and struggling with catching up on work and all that jazz, Vegas and I are a third of the way home after work, marching to the tune of rolling thunder, la la...

When bam! It starts pouring. Literally.

We tucked ourselves in a store doorway to let the downpour subside, which it didn't, of course. The clock kept ticking.

Vegas: "Fuck it, let's go, at least the rain is warm!"
Me: "Yeah well, watch the rain stop when we are half a block from home..."

Was I right? Hell yeah! Not a pretty sight, two soaking wet tired peeps schlepping home with hair plastered to our skulls (just happy to have worn a bra, if you know what I mean). Half a block from home, the rain just stopped.

Ass.

Am a bit drunk right now, needed to calm my nerves: poor melonhead is now at the vet's, he didn't understand why he couldn't come home with us and was being led away by strangers... my heart is breaking. I know he's in excellent hands but he's still being cut open tomorrow, he will be in pain for a while (they mentioned morphine...) and oh, why did this shit have to happen! Chrissake! Everything was going so well and now? Caca after caca :-(

I'm really fed up. I just want a break, OK?

Please.

/end of Thank God I Have Vegas (And Wine) post/

I don't effing believe this

My wallet is gone.

Disappeared.

Vanished into thin air, by the looks of it.

I had also written a long blog post about it but that too just mysteriously disappeared into thin air just as I was about to click "publish post". No blogger autosave. I don't know what the fuck is going on right now but it is soooo aggravating, I am out of words.

Woke up exhausted cuz of not enough sleep hours, it's super hot and muggy again today - feels like breathing through a sauna - and now this. Late for work, panicked, no idea where or how the hell my wallet disappeared - had always dreaded that this would happen and voilà, here we are. And it's as unpleasant as I had imagined it would be.

Christ on a monkey pole, I could do without this motherfucking trouble.

I had everything in there: cash, credit cards, debit card, health card, driver's permit, car insurance and registration, etc. I need to drive melonhead to the vet's tonight (his surgery is tomorrow morning) but heeey, no permit. And no credit card to pay the vet with, either.

My day is so awesome, I cannot begin to tell you :-D

Yes I got my cards cancelled and yes most things can be replaced, what bugs me is that I know where I was yesterday and what I did, and none of that included losing my wallet or getting it stolen. It's like a freaking X-Files episode.

And now there is a giant mutant panicked BEE in my office banging itself against the windows, maybe I should go do the same, eh?

Eye see...

"An eye can threaten like a loaded and levelled gun, or it can insult like hissing or kicking; or, in its altered mood, by beams of kindness, it can make the heart dance for joy.... One of the most wonderful things in nature is a glance of the eye; it transcends speech; it is the bodily symbol of identity." ~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Les dieux sont tombés sur la tête!

"The gods have fallen on their heads!" - an old funny movie (Botswana, 1981), this week's weather just reminded me of that French phrase cuz it is just NUTS! Showers and thundershowers for a week in a row? Coupled again with extreme humidity? WTF! It's like summer is competing with the winter we just had for the title of Shittiest Season Evah!!

*shakes fist at thunderclouds*

This weekend is for doing the least possible, it's been a helluva month so far and uugghh I need a long vacation. Preferably by the sea, with manservants and a chef and a masseuse, ooooh yeah baby.

Ain't gonna happen :-(

Lazing around the house is fun. So are watching silly movies (In Bruges, Run Lola Run, Oldboy) and having too much sex, watching hilarious Japanese game shows on youtube in bed and wishing it would never end. Sigh. Already Sunday - bleh.

Oh and my 4-year old laptop is on its last legs, had to back up everything on my external HD and pray the old clunker lasts until the new one I ordered (Dell Studio 15) gets here... I need a laptop for my job in LA on August 9th so I can't take any chances. Yep. More credit card debt wracking up by the week. Just kill me now.

Me: OMG, we're broke!
Vegas: We'll be fine!
Me: No but look at this debt! How am I going to pay off this credit card in 3 weeks? Fucking sucky commissions! I have to pay it off, I don't want to pay interest!
Vegas: We'll be fine!
Me: I haven't been this stressed about money in years!
Vegas: We'll be fine!
Me: How can you be so calm and sure about this stuff?
Vegas: Cuz I can see further than tomorrow... and we'll be fine.

Sigh. Can't argue with that, can I?

Well I tried but failed.

Herm. Time to take the kids out and run a few errands... hope the skies hold out today, I am sick and tired of everything sticking to my skin. And these goddamned fruit flies that have invaded our place can fuck OFF already! We're not running a FF charity here!

I need therapy!

Good god... wrenched myself out of a horrible nightmare at 4am, who the hell dreams of these things? Had flesh-eating disease on my ass FFS!

The worst was me in the bathroom, front of a mirror, twisting around to try and squeeze it out like a giant zit, but the stench and pain were unbearable and I could feel it spreading faster and faster... all the while my nightmare of a russian ex was sitting in the tub and laughing at me the whole time. I felt myself starting to pass out and was mad at Vegas for not being there to save meh :-(

Shudder.

Erm. Well. Glad that's over and my ass is fine, kthanx.

Vegas is on his way home, yey! Way too long to be apart. OK. Need to get going now and take the kids out before the rain starts, gonna get thundershowers for most of the day. Figures, since I took the day off :-D

Will read up on youse later so party UP!

Is it not true..?

"People often say that this or that person has not yet found himself.

~Thomas Szasz, "Personal Conduct," The Second Sin, 1973

On euphemisms

Oh man... fell on this Euphemism Generator last night and I couldn't stop clicking! Some fine examples included:

Like most guys his age, he wasn't above stretching the big porcelain dumplings.

Guess what I've been doing? That's right - rearranging the heat-seeking Cossack.

She seemed like a shy girl when they met, but a few drinks later, they were initiating the ol' Nantucket tower.

Shut the door! I'm flensing the cheap hose!

They found him naked in the alley behind the bar, dropping the trombone.

He he! Hours of fun :-D

Morning weather report: sunny and quite warm, had to leave the A/C on in the appartment for the kids so they don't cook during the day. Did I bring my umbrella? Of course not!

Afternoon weather report: rain.

Fcuk.

I took the day off tomorrow to enjoy 3 days of rain(!), I desperately need to rest and try to get some sleep. If I had to recap the past year of my life it would go something like this:

Break up with bf of 4 years, get through summer stress of work + tradeshow in San Diego, bf finally moves out, learning to live on my own with 2 big dogs & a full-time job, developping a relationship with Vegas, who then comes over for a visit, get through the longest and toughest winter of my life (shoveling out the car 9 times is no joke), deal with multiple overseas visits, love the UK wooo, turn 38 in January YUCK, Vegas finally moves here in June, re-arrange living space, deal with work stress of quarter-end, no vacation, new product launch, busier than ever, dog rips his knee and needs surgery, just when the tradeshow hell in LA is on the horizon.

Um.

I don't think 3 days will be enough!

My friend, my warrior

Dammit!

One more week to wait... finally this morning was only for the consultation with the orthopedic vet (yep, confirmed diagnosis of torn cruciate ligaments) so the TPLO surgery will be next Tuesday, July 22nd. I lost a whole morning of work because of this - sigh.

In the meantime he's on anti-inflammatories and is only allowed short potty breaks, I got him a sling to help with the stairs and we'll just have to be patient...

The timing is really tight with our departure to LA on August 8th, but there is nothing else we can do. At least the melonhead will be in very skilled hands, he's a wonderful vet and I trust he will do a good job on my boy's knee.

Ha. I'll have a robo-dog after this! He he. Yep steel implants in his leg and all. For the cost, they should be gold-plated FFS.

Whew.

I don't know what I would do without my dogsitter friend, who will keep Dakotah for 3 weeks post-op so there are no stairs to tackle - what a life-saver.

Ok... Back to work before I get fired.

/end of I Am Losing My Mind post/

Off to the vet now... wish us luck

I know the surgeon is more than competent and that the knots in my stomach are unjustified... yet they are there, I am sweating stress from the palms of my hands and still not quite believing this is happening.

Please wish my boy a fast and successful surgery :-(

I need some humour, so help me gawd

Never, ever, ever, ever tell a woman that she cannot "man the BBQ"...

I'm sorry

I know my blog has been a downer the past few days... I wish I had funnier things to post and stories to share. Mleh. After the rain comes sun bla bla bla.

Thanks for sticking with me through this crap.

*rubs toe against the ground*

On a more positive note, my phone calls this afternoon (along with pleadings and a helluva lotta luck) landed me a 9am visit tomorrow morning with one of the top ortho surgeons around these parts of the world, and it looks like Dakotah aka melonhead will get his surgery tomorrow - crossing fingers it all works out.

Everyone else is either on vacation, booked, or won't return my calls so I consider myself super lucky... his credentials look fine and my vet highly recommended him in the first place.

My amazing dogsitter friend will keep Dakotah for a few days, at least until he is strong enough to tackle our 3 flights of stairs here (along with the sling and our help). I'll visit twice a day to take him out and feed him/give meds, don't want to burden my friend and I cannot abandon my boy in his time of need. Thank goodness he loves it there, it's his 2nd home.

See? Sunlight piercing through the clouds.

Thunderbolt of over four thousand dollars cracking through my bank account :-D

Anyways, it's only money right? You make some, you spend some, you spend alot, you make more eventually. Just gonna have to nix anything that is not strictly necessary for a while. Need to stay focused on the important things... my boy is strong and healthy and he will get through this, we all will.

Vegas just boarded his flight for NYC and my heart feels a bit torn up. What crappy timing. Sigh. Why can't life just stay nice when it's going well, why does it feel the need to drop a brick on our heads when we're smiling? Is it to test our resilience or something? Shit. I appreciate everything I have, I don't need disasters to know how lucky I am in the first place.

Honestly. It's pretty whacked out when you think about it.

F*ck!!!

Melonhead's knee ligaments are ruptured (one hind leg), he will need a TPLO surgery asap. Just as I had dreaded. Shit!!!

Most surgeons are on vacation right now, wtf are we supposed to do? Vegas and I are gone to LA for work in 3 weeks, who's going to take care of a giant dog who can't walk and is all stitched up? And where are we supposed to find the 3K for this operation?

Sigh. The only good news is that he is strong and healthy, his hips are great and his other leg is strong enough to support the weight *for now*. The longer we wait, the worse it will get though... hence the urgency.

I am waiting on two calls back from specialist vet surgeons this afternoon - gawd I hate this. Pins and needles.

My poor boy. I wish I could prevent all the pain that is coming next... I wish this accident had never happened. What an unnecessary, stupid waste. ARGGHH!

Hellboy 2: yeah baby, yeah!

So we're pretty movied out... it was fun catching up on things this weekend, though. Just a suggestion for the movie theatres of the world: stop selling übersalty cheap cardboard popcorn drizzled with cold grease! WTF!

*shudder* Never again.

So. Hellboy 2... A sequel that works! It's got a good storyline, characters you can't help but fall in love with, cool monsters, a hilarious troll market, sexy flaming robots, incredible CG, snappy dialogue that had us ROTF, it's got Barry Manilow, love, sword fights, big guns and well, I could go on and on but just go see the damn thing. The golden army will thank you :-)

I am dreading tomorrow. Vegas leaves for New York again, this time for the whole week - worst timing ever. Tomorrow morning we drop our melonhead off at the vet's for his x-rays and by the afternoon we will know what is up with his lame leg.

I am expecting the worst but still praying for a miracle.

Yes, I can pray when I need to.

If it *is* his knee, then I need to find a competent surgeon who can operate stat because in 3 weeks we are gone, and I can't leave a disabled dog with the dogsitter who will already have his hands full with two others.

ARRGGHH!!

Hence this weekend's escape in movies... reality is just kinda rough right now. The weather has been pretty awful and it hurts to see my boy aka Mr Limpy struggle around like that. He has no idea his leg is hurt unless he tries to walk, he doesn't understand why he's not getting any walks except for bio breaks and oh, I dread what is ahead :-(

Anyways. One day at a time, that's all anyone can do.

Gonna have to stock up on booze.

Yeah.

Sweeney Todd, in one short paragraph

Old stinky London, tale of revenge, bugs, singing, rabid barber aka Johnny Depp, meatpies, giant meat grinder, alcoholic children, cannibalism, Helena Bonham-Carter, more singing, dirty lechers, razor blades, buckets of fake orange blood, murder, yadi yada.

You won't miss anything if you never see this movie. 5/10, for Tim Burton's effort cuz I like him.

Wanted: a movie review

Angelina Jolie? I lust after that "somebody please give her a sammich" sexy starving lady even if I'm straigher than fork.

James McAvoy? Strangely adorable geek whose baby face does not match his ripped body at all - très strange, but it works.

Morgan Freeman? Always Class A steak in my world, even better now that the f-word has slipped his lips TWICE.

The movie? In the first 5 minutes you're brought back to "Fight Club", then 15 minutes later you're whipping through "Matrix" and the in-between is a gorgeous funny mishmash of, well, pure entertainment, sliced and diced with hilarious lines, awesome FX, cool storyline twists and plot hiccups, tons of bullets, killer stunts and sexy music: it works.

Bored accountant finds out he's much more than he thinks, secret clan of assassins recruit & train him and whoooeee, it's awesome.

I. Loved. Every. Minute.

Definitely a must-see if you're into that kind of stuff. 9/10.

Update :-(

Thanks so much for your well-wishes and prayers and words of encouragement... I'm pretty flat-out discouraged right now, doggie goes back to the vet on Monday morning for a full set of knee and hip x-rays - they're pretty sure he blew his knee *but* we have to wait and see... who knows, maybe a miracle is waiting for us somewhere.

Sigh. Damn these big dogs and their health issues.

You don't want to know what all this is costing... add the stress, the hassle of taking two dogs out seperately (and seeing one suffer) and the bad timing - Vegas and I have to go work in LA for a week in early August - and you have a load of crap to deal with.

One positive note in this post: our new mattress is a dream and we both finally got a good night of sleep; it's Friday night now and I'm off to cuddle and thank Vegas for being such a star... He gets here and one month later is already neck-deep in dramah and yet, he is my rock. I don't know what I would do if he wasn't here. Just when I think I couldn't love him any more than I do... *blush*

I am so pissed!!

You know those times where you wish you could turn back the clock, just for a minute, to change the outcome of something?

Yeah, well. Now is the time for magic n'wishes.

Stupid dog tore up something in his weak leg last night, we're off to the vet at 4:30pm today - second visit in a week. He's hobbling around on 3 legs and lurching horribly so we have no choice.

Please oh please let it NOT be his knee... Need all the good thoughts and wishes you can spare right now. Sigh.

Another night, another migraine...

The crick in my neck is driving me batshit!

Yesterday's massage helped a bit but apparently only enough to get stagnant blood flowing, on which the ass-migraine fed on in the wee hours of the night... thank dog for super UK drugs or else I'd be a rabid walking zombie, instead of just a grumpy walking zombie.

It's an important distinction apparently :-D

Oh well... as of tonight we sleep on THIS so I am hoping that finally, fiiinally my sore wrecked back will get a break. Yey for talalay latex?!

One last thing for this morning... a question for dog lovers more than anything else. Say you had to move and the place you choose to buy is a condo that does not allow dogs. Would you still keep looking, or would you give up your dog? (read this on my akita forum and am incensed at the debate).

On perspective

"Children find everything in nothing; men find nothing in everything."
~Giacomo Leopardi, Zibaldone Scelto

What did you expect?

The skies were pregnant with heavy rain this morning (83% humidity!) and now it's pelting on my office window, blessed relief.

Makes coming to work a bit less painful.

Neeener neeener all you vacationers!

It's only 10am and my day is already jammed full with work, no relief in sight except the 30-minute massage due soon. My left arm has been numb since Monday morning, I really really need to take better care of myself.

Last night's dinner was sushi and cold corona beer with lime, talk about a clash of cultures that blend super well, eh? Eaten by a canuck and a brit. Awesome. The planet is getting really small and smelly.

Speaking of smelly, I'm too scared to take the garbage down - it's been on the back porch for over a week in the blazing humid sun, no joke the bags are moving on their own, eeeewwww. Like a maggot disneyland. As far as I'm concerned, let 'em have their party and when there's nothing left but hangovers, then I'll take the stuff down to the curb.

I have maggophobia.

Hats off to all the brave garbage removers of the planet...

Sucked dry

No that was not a reference to anything sexual or vampirical, it's about my brain after two demented days at work... I have nothing left except basic brain functions like breathing and sweating. And sweating some more.

Cuz it's m*f*cking hot here - christ if I wanted to live in the amazonian jungle, I'd move there. Mother Nature is crazy.

Vegas is back from NYC, we're both wiped out by work work work, time for a cold shower and then hopefully a deep dark sleep.

I miss blogging :-(

10,000 BC - a movie review

Alternate movie titles:

10,000 Brain Cancers
10,000 Bludgeoned Cunts
10,000 Bad Caricatures
10,000 Belching Corpses

...I could go on, but you get the picture.

Last night I put on the worst movie I could find so that we could eat our poisoned thai chicken curry with two hands (long story... we're both still green from that dinner, ugh) but really, we had no idea it would be that much of a celluloid vomit.

I'll never get those 30 minutes of my life back.

Yes, even in skipping through the scenes it was an epic nightmare of never-ending dung-covered third-rate actors fighting dancing cartoon mammoths and dirty metrosexual egyptians, my god what a giant turd-cake directed by masturbating ego-centric baboons on cheap crack.

I feel sorry for anyone who paid to see this "movie" in a theatre, it must have been worse than being sodomized by a gang of angry nazi cacti.

Want to reduce crime? Force prison inmates to view this junk o'shite over and over again, thereby inducing coma and/or self-lobotomy... voilà, less social parasites to deal with.

I give this one a 0.5/10 and that is being generous.

Am not having a shitty day, that was just an expression - although am wicked busy at work with no time to blog before tonight, if I make it out of here in one piece.

My brain is imploding.

Sea, here we come!!

I was sooo freaking out last Friday about being stuck in the city all summer and not having a proper vacation that Vegas pushed me to look for a cottage by the sea... I thought "surely not, everything nice has been rented out by now and forget about finding somewhere that allows dogs" - um, yeah. How wrong was I?!

The guy who owns the place where I vacationed last summer just opened up another cottage a bit further up on the shore and OMG!! The week that Vegas' daughter is here in August is free! I wrote and he said "sure no problem" -

WE ARE GOING FOR A VACATION BY THE SEA!!

*happy giddy dance of butterflies and rainbows*

That gives the summer a whole new outlook... I was in the depths of despair to see life just fly by and not being able to enjoy see at least a few days of blue - but now, I'm all cheered up.

Plus, it'll be a vacation we will all remember, bbqing on the huge deck to the sun setting over the waves, beachcombing for hours, collecting seaglass and just breathing life in - bye bye hot stinky city! In the meantime we'll try to get away here and there but so far it's been busy as hell, I hope life will finally settle down a bit.

Jeebus, what a race. If I had to resume this weekend? Shopping, laundry, dogs. Whew. My feet and back hurt from all the malling today.

At least we found our gorgeous sleepy indonesian buddha bookends, la la laaa!

Man.

I am NOT ready for another long week of work.

BLAH.

Vegas is off to New York super early tomorrow morning, he should be back Wednesday but if I am lucky he may be able to make it for Tuesday night *crosses fingers*. Sigh. He just got here a short month ago and it's been a whirlwind, and now he's leaving again... and next week he's gone four long days, I dunno how well I'll survive that.

Gonna suck petrified dino turds :-(

I love living with him, what can I say? I hate feeling clingy and I know damn well this is part of his job, he's doing it for us and I wouldn't dream of saying "don't go" - but that doesn't mean I have to like it. Mutter. Sigh. Bleh. And all of that.

Time to make dinner... red curry with chicken tonight, mmm. Oh and the big melonhead is doing better now that he's on anti-inflammatories, so it's definitely a muscle injury and not a ligament or tendon. THANK YE AMEN!

Best line evah!

Use with moderation, but use it well and use it often!

Raaaargh!

Um, I apparently do strange things in the middle of the night according to Vegas... like sit bolt upright in bed and stare around the bedroom, which is freaking him out after a few nights seeing that I have zero recollection of doing such a thing.

Maybe I'm possessed :-D

It's gorgeous out today and the weekend looks promising... just again too many things we want to do and not enough hours to do it all.

Grunt.

Tonight is taken up by raw dog food prep (after normal doggie exercise routine, dinner, etc) and then if we're still alive we've got that nice bottle of red wine to finish and maybe another movie or hey, maybe wild kinky sex on the floor? Yeah. I wish. Friday nights = comatose by 9pm.

Oh for anyone interested in my photos, I've been updating my Bubblegum Snapshots blog with summer stuff so take a look if ya want. I need all the encouragement I can get... it's shite to have nothing really exciting to take photos of, you know?

Sigh. I want to travel so badly.

I miss the sea.
I miss having no responsibilities.
I miss reading for hours on a rocky shore.
I ache to leave these confines of the city.
I feel trapped.

Can't take any time off work these days either cuz it's so busy, so imagine the frustration x 2. I just might take a Fuckitall Pill and just do it anyways... Life is too short to rot in an office on a hot sunny July day.

*pissing rain out, got soaked a few times
*love my new white and pink pumas, reeeer - thems hot!

*as I type this the sun is finally peeking out from the clouds... coincidence? I think not!
*no chocolate yet today, I must be ill
*lunch was spicy signapore noodles and I have the heartburn to prove it
*am super exhausted and mentally flat, why is that?
*my home-made iced tea is the best evah. s'true.

Tick clock tick clock

"Men talk of killing time, while time quietly kills them."
~Dion Boucicault

Seven votes and that's it? Tsk!

Where are all you chocolate lovers and why aren't you voting on the poll? Hrumph. I guess if I threw in an incentive... *goes off to ponder*

*nibbles chockit whilst pondering*

Nope. I got nothing.

I booked a vet appointment for the melondhead tomorrow morning, they were too busy tonight of course - I guess alot of pets got into the Canada Day beer and fried chicken pizza yesterday. Crossing fingers he just needs some anti-inflammatories and it isn't anything serious.

Um, doggies... can you please just stay healthy? For a bit? I'm really broke now. Kthanx.

In other non-events...

Did I mention that we spent the afternoon outside yesterday in a lovely green park packed with other sun-hungry citizens?

Yep. We did.

Vegas got serenaded by mosquitoes (one big lump on each limb, it's hilarious!) except of course he didn't think it was so funny, you should have seen his mood plummet to dark depths... it kinda sucked actually. He he. I made a punny.

Dinner was outside on a terasse, then we gorged on ginormous ice-cream cones, collapsed back home on the sofa and vegged out watching a strange film called "The Fountain" with Rachel Weisz and Hugh Jackman. We both rather liked it... not a film for anyone with sorrow issues though. Don't even try it.

Work has drained the juice from my tender head, I can feel my writing skills withering down to Grade 2 level with every sentence.

Jack and Jill went up the hill
And Technodoll sat at the bottom
And laughed at them.

Happy Canada Day... ouain!

I don't really care if we're celebrating mooses (meese?), canoes or poutines eaten in log cabins: we're off today so wooooot!

It's hot, it's sunny, and after loading up the car half a dozen times to bring stuff over to our storage unit - which we finally have access to today - we're spending part of the afternoon where else? but sitting in a movie theatre!

Soooo wish us luck for no broken backs and that Ironman won't suck.

PS: big doggy is still limping pretty badly, this is the point where I get half annoyed and half really worried. *frowns a bit*
