Bring back Flat Eric!
OMG, has it really been a decade already?!
Not much to blog about this morning... Just debating with Vegas over what is the "right" thing to do when someone you work with asks about something you know the answer to, which was something told to you in confidence by another ex-coworker who asked you to please keep it a secret.
Of course he spilled the beans and feels perfectly justified in his actions.
I don't agree, and would have first given the the ex-coworker a chance to clear up the situation before feeling like I *had* to say something. Oh and the situation was just a dirty trick pulled on person B by person A, they know each other very well.
Nothing serious and nobody got hurt but, well, it's just funny how one person can view certain things said in confidence as not worthy to keep quiet about anymore, depending on which side of the equation one now sits with...
Makes me uneasy.
Anyhoo. Maybe mens just see things differently than wimmins.
Bright and warm again today, on the menu is making a big pot of spaghetti sauce and buying some scrap fabric to try and make a cushion before I forget how to thread the sewing machine!
First I need to get my act together, take the dogs out for their morning walk and drop the car off at the garage.
Ta!

The soul and the mirror
Plans mock me!
So almost everything that I had planned to do yesterday flew out the window. Well OK just two things, but still!
Car & locker stuff got pushed to tomorrow (how can a garage be busier than a dentist's office?!), I did get all the stupid unemployment paperwork taken care of, managed one load of laundry, spent 3 hours in the car driving far for butcher meat and a dresser and finally baked that apple pie although it was terrible - the leftovers are going in the trash today.
Seriously: worst crust recipe ever. Hard as a rock, lardy and salty. Plus I didn't have enough for a top crust so I latticed it but forgot to cover with foil paper when cooking so all the moisture evaporated.
Result?
Burnt crusty bits and dry, undercooked apples.
I tell you, I'm buying crusts as of now on or using Prin's recipe (2 cups flour and 3/4 cup margarine, just enough water to wet) - did I remember correctly?
Fuck Crisco! Yecch!
So.... What a sleepless toss n'turn night, man. We were in bed at 9:30pm for reading and relaxing, then soon after lights out cuz we were both shattered. No sleep cometh and taketh me away though... I faded in and out, awake enough to hear the little one puking up grass at 5am - gaaah!
Paper towels + darkness + dog vomit = not something to brag about.
I did have a stream of bizarre, disturbing and funny dreams though. In one of them I was prancing about, happy to celebrate my new John Fluevog shoes:
Then Vegas asks loudly, in front of everyone: "How much did you pay for those?"
*embarassing*
Luckily they were on sale for $49.99 so I was happy to shout it out!
If you know John Fluevog shoes, you will know this can only happen in dreams.
So, today... is warm and sunny and is scheduled to be miiine, all miiine! After a few items get ticked off my list, that is. A lady is supposed to come over at noon to check out our coffee table that I put up on craigslist, I can't wait for that big thing to be gone - a bit of extra cash won't hurt, either.
Oooo then after work, I get to meet Vegas and his buddies in an Old Montreal bar for drinks (coke with lemon counts as a drink!) so that should be quite some fun.
Allez, bonne journée everyone!

My husband cracks me up
One of the books that he's currently reading is called "How To Get Things Done". He started reading it a few years ago, stopped at page 17.
He he. Mens :-D
Well, it seems to be a trend to wake up at 9am now... Way too late for my taste, by the time I get all the little morning shindings done it's noon and I've frittered away practically half the day, grrr. And no, this does not mean I packed in 10 hours of sleep or anything (I wish)!
Really need to get my ass to bed earlier than half past midnight.
Mmmm, hot coffee.
Today's list includes bringing 4 boxes and two big garbage bags of winter clothes (yay for Force Flex bags!) to the locker, getting out the all-season tires and dropping the car off at the garage for semi-annual tune-up and tire change, mailing some paperwork, doing some laundry and baking that apple pie...
Never got around to doing it yesterday although I did buy the apples! Decided to hoover the place and steamvac the stinky carpet instead and then just ran out of time and muscle.
Oh how thrilling is the life of a stay-at-home wifey (I make my own self jealous, he he!)
Crap. Just called the garage and they're booked solid, have to wait until Thursday. I want my mags baaaack! *cries*

Mondays ain't so bad
Of course if I had had to get up early this morning and spend this beautiful warm sunny day stuck in a stinky dark cave of an office, I would probably have shot myself.
But no!
Still groggy and wonky after a long night's sleep (damn migraine-prevention pills knock me out) and now that the hours are flying by, I need to get a move-on or this day will have been wasted puttering online and then I'll feel all guilty and useless and stuff. Can't have that!
My goal this afternoon is to run after my papers for unemployment, pack a few boxes, clean & put away the winter apparel, get some fresh fruit n'veggies and make an apple pie.
I think I can manage that, LOL!
Time for coffee and a hot shower first... Just came back from walking the kids in the hot sunny field and admiring all the fresh green that's just sprouting all over the place like crazy. Me like :-)
Happy Monday to you all!

You are your own destiny
Hot! Hot! Hot!
Hard to believe but here we are, April 25th with July-like temperatures!
Very hot, sunny, warm breeze... it's unbelievable yet also a bit strange since there are no shady trees to take refuge under. Gotta love freaky weather and all the white arms and legs it brings out into the open :-D
We just met for brunch with my cousin and his lady, who will take over the design, branding & website setup for my new company (how lucky can I be to have such talent in the family? It's what they do for a living). Am very thrilled and excited to get things going, finally make it all tangible - w00t!
God, I hate waiting for people.
I put some plants up on Craigslist yesterday "free to a good home", got about 8 emails within 30 minutes and picked whom I thought would be the best home.
We arranged for her to be here at 1pm today to get them, and just now (at 1pm) she emails to says a) she's late and b) can only take part of the plants today, can she come by tomorrow for the rest.
Um, no - there was a lineup of good peeps wanting the plant yesterday, I need the space but not the aggravation of sitting here waiting for you to show up!
Fucking rude, man.
Gaaah!
I have a photo shoot at 4pm in Old Montreal, some friends are sub-letting their condo and need a few beauty shots so that should be quite fun - yey, photographs! Oh and they are giving us this gorgeous antique wing-back chair that will fit in perfectly with our new lounge space, can't wait to bring that baby home :-)
OK I'm blabbing now, signing off to go get a sunburn or something.
*edited to add that the lady finally showed up and managed to take all the plants - yey!*

Meet Morgan :-)
What? Of course the sewing machine has a name!
Isn't he gorgeous? Picked him up last night from a lovely old couple who are relocating to Texas and can't bring their furniture... This old guy had been with them for over 20 years and before that, he belonged to the mother of a friend of theirs for 30 some years:
He's nested in this original mahogany sewing desk - the lot for $40 and I even got a sewing lesson from the 78-year old tailor! Thank goodness or I would have had NO idea how to thread the machine up. Yeah, it's been a looong time since 8th grade Home Ec...
What a gorgeous sunny spring day. Am just about to go run some errands then back home to finish the chicken pot pies (yes I will post pics, LOL), bathe Melonghead (big dog, not white anymore) then scrub the cruddy bathroom.
Mmm free weekend with no chores, I love it!
Who knew how liberating it would be to not work in a dark stinky cave anymore... I've not slept much but have loads of energy - goes to show how stress and unhappiness can suck the life out of you.
Enjoy your Friday!

Bloomin' hearts
Housewifing 101
Where to begin...
I love it!!
Of course this is just an interim period, a rest before life gets hellishly hectic... I'm not sitting still though, there's just too much to do.
Funny how fast the hours fly by when you're busy doing stuff you like.
This morning the dogs and I had a nice long walk in the field, then we went to pick up a gorgeous pale wood and glass two-tiered yin-yang coffee table that will fit perfectly with our couch in the new house (yey craigslist!).
I did laundry, scrubbed the cruddy stove & kitchen and now catching up on email... Next I will make pie dough cuz soooomebody wants chicken pot pies tomorrow, LOL! Even if I had very little sleep and woke up with a headache I have plenty of energy - how does that work?!
Oh and I finally found the most awesome electric sewing machine, an original baby blue antique originally made for The Bay complete in its mahogany desk (all for $40!) - will go pick it up this evening and also get a sewing lesson from the 78-year old man who's selling it. He's a tailor, still works cuz he loves it... He and his wife are downsizing and they have three machines so he's letting two go - how awesome is that!
I will be able to make bed duvet covers, cushions, curtains, lots of cool stuff on a shoestring budget - cuz well, I'm not earning the pennies anymore... *nervous*
So that's about as exciting as today's gonna get.
Wishing you all a lovely day... don't work too hard :-D

I might have jinxed myself, but...
I just got laid off.
Yep.
Walked in and my boss was waiting with "the envelope"... Can't say I was surprised, although it's always a bit demoralizing to not be good enough...
Bah. The company's suffering and they need to tighten their belt, I obviously wasn't a good fit so the decision makes sense. I had a good five month run there and it wrecked me - needless to say, I am ecstatic to be out of the corporation rat race.
Now I can concentrate on getting some rest, getting better and setting up my new business!
There's a lot to be done and now I have the time and mental energy to do it: branding, biz cards, brochure, website, publicity, marketing, not to mention the physical setup once we move.
Vegas is a bit nervous as our income just took a hit but life has got to be more than just a paycheck of blood and tears.
I feel like a rebirth is just around the corner... starting...
NOW!

A day in hell and still counting
That was the worst migraine in a year.
Woke me up at 3am Tuesday morning and just about nearly killed me for 30 hours... Vegas had to work from home to make sure I didn't pass out and hit my head or drown myself in the toilet.
Why me? Why get hit like that, out of the blue, so hard and for so long?
I couldn't keep any liquids or solids down and pain meds just made me even sicker. Didn't get out of my jammies and just stank of intense brain-cracking pain. UGH.
Am still in pain, dizzy and weak from exhaustion but I need to get to the office and see if I can do a few hours of work before they fire me... Blah. I don't really care, but I need the money so I will bite the bullet. If I feel sick again, I'm outta there and so be it.
What a giant waste of a day.

The disco elephant
OK, since you're all curious about Reno (cuz that's his name), here is the infamous disco elephant that has Vegas shaking his head and uttering death threats:
Long story short, our friends J & M are renting a place that has lots of furniture and decorations left there by the owner, she basically just dumped it all there and said "not my problem anymore" or something like that. J & M can't wait to leave and get rid of all this stuff, you can imagine!
Well, in the dining room high up on a shelf were two sculptures, which we couldn't see very well in the flickering candle-light so I pointed to this guy and asked to see him up close, at which point all hell broke loose as the dust fell off and revealed this, um, sculpture? Made by blind child labour in some far-away country?
I dunno, man. We baptized him Reno as a jab to Vegas and our hosts shoved him into my hands and said "you're taking it home, red-tag sticker still on the bottom and all". Wow, $29.99 on sale! A steal! LOL!
Rather a horror, according to my husband. Oh, did we ever have a laugh at him getting hives at the thought of this thing in our house...
He he.
I shall bring him out at all dinner parties, truly makes a great conversation piece!

Get the shades!
Oh man, is the sun ever bright this morning.
Ow ow ow.
I love it though... Come hell or high water, I'm taking that lunch hour today and getting some air - I don't think I can do another week like the last one, that was just retarded. Life has gotta be bigger than that.
In fact I got a good taste of it this weekend: once again BLINK and it's over (WTF is up with that!) but it feels like D-day is inching closer and oh, what a relief... I'm having a ball scouring craigslist for inexpensive and unique pieces of furniture, it somehow calms me? Dunno why, it just does. Nesting and all that, I suppose.
Last night, before going to dinner chez J and M, we swung by a lovely old lady's place to pick up a sort of convertible heavy carved art deco-ish wood bar thingie (it's sooo cool! $50!) and she also had a huge long matching buffet for sale for $100, which Vegas took one look at and said "we'll take it!"
He he. I love my husband.
Only problem is we have no freaking way to transport the piece and nowhere to store it. Um. Oooops. Logistics!
So we took the bar piece and Vegas said he'd find a truck and driver to get the buffet over to our locker today and somehow re-arrange the puzzle to make everything fit until moving day.
Did I mention I love my husband! :-D
And oh yes, dinner last night was a blast!
J can cook a mean shredded pork slow-cooker tenderloin, as well as sausage-stuffed shrooms and a yummy baked root veggie casserole, am still drooling. M dished out the rainbow pack of sorbet and we ate those cookies and drank that wine like nobody's business (well I had to drive so only one glass, but it was tasty).
My sides still hurt from laughing. They just got engaged (YEY!) so there is much love and happiness going around, lord knows the world needs more goodness, it felt awesome to share it.
Until the red-tag disco elephant came down from the shelf, dusted itself off and got Vegas into a rage...
But that's a story for later, I'm late for work.
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

Where's the beef?
I've got to be very creative in the kitchen for the next two weeks: that car vandalism ate into our budget and we need to cut somewhere, so into the groceries it will be.
Dug out my mom's awesome recipe for banana bread, that'll use up the blackened nanas that have been sitting in the fruit bowl for a week... Have everything I need to make a big pot of potato, corn & bacon chowder tonight and we'll pick up some essentials to make one or two pasta dishes for the week.
I've got all I need to make a green curry with chicken & veggies, too - voilà!
I don't mind being creative this way, it'll force me to clean out the pantry since we're moving soon and there is no need to transport boxes of food... Oh and speaking of boxes, we're on our way to pick up a bunch so we can start packing here and there when the mood strikes, it'll limit the stress come end of June.
Yep, we've got our shit together, man.
(fake it 'till you make it - LOL)
Nothing much to blab about. Slept until 11am today, am groggy as hell and don't feel like doing much so I won't push too hard on the chores today. PMS does that to wimmins... Sigh.
*bends over to pick self up by the bootstraps*
Hopefully my mojo will kick in at some point and shove the headache away, open the door for a sunny disposition and all that hogwash. Or I'll just scrub the tub and enjoy a hot bubble bath later, yeah! Me like!

Me like!

Which is worse?
Being bored to tears at work but having lots of time to chat with your friends, or being so freaking busy you have no time for a pee, let alone time to log into chat or glance at the clock?
My brain is so full, it hurts.
My back is in spasms.
I know I bitched and moaned plenty of times about dullsville but this 180 degree turnaround since Tuesday is fucking ridiculous - I can't even find time to eat a sammich now plus I'm expected to stay later despite no lunch hour!
Like, no.
Really, no thanks.
BECAUSE I DON'T GIVE A CRAP!
It's so hard to put your heart into something when you know it's temporary, you know? June 12th, I am out of there and you bet your sweet buns I'm counting the workdays, all 40 of them that are left. I will miss alot of the folks I work with though, they are genuinely nice and make the days bearable.
But hey. When companies need to save a dime they don't hesitate to put you on the sidewalk so I need to toughen up and not feel like I owe them anything. Four more paychecks and that's the only reason I'm staying.
Like Vegas said... Suck it up, it will soon all be over!
Well and then a whole other set of challenges will be on the menu but I'm looking forward to it! w00t!
Notary is booked, mortgage paperwork almost done, movers are booked and we're buying boxes this weekend, will be nice to start packing during free hours.
Thanks to craigslist we're finding free and really cheap awesome pieces of furniture (tonight we got a super cool wood bookshelf and dresser for $40, we're thrilled!), only I have to stop shopping now because we have NO place to store anything anymore... bummer.
But if it's free, I will find space - he he.
Did I mention my brain hurt?
It's full of stuff like "why is it bread and butter and not butter and bread?" and "where can I find a 90 lbs woman to walk all over my back with vibrating sandals?"
Time for an early night, we're both fried like sweet farm eggs.
Peace, out.

Emotional Baggage and Confirmation Bias
** As promised, here is today's blog post by Vegas - enjoy! **
Emotional Baggage - Painful memories, mistrust and hurt carried around from past emotional rejection.
Confirmation Bias - a tendency to search for or interpret new information in a way that confirms one's preconceptions and to avoid information and interpretations which contradict prior beliefs
The hidden parts or our minds often contain statements or beliefs about ourselves that we unknowingly carry with us throughout our lives. Sometimes it can be something that was said to us as a child, like 'you wouldnt want to make mummy sad would you?' or 'I'm very disappointed in you' or 'why cant you be more like your brother?'.
A thoughtless throwaway comment that curses us for the rest of our lives.
These beliefs can be so deeply embedded within us, that we are not aware of their presence - we just act in a certain way, and then wonder why we acted that way. Sometimes we create elaborate rationalisations in order to explain the behaviour to others.
How many people do you know that are prisoners to these inner demons?
How many escape from them?
Self-destructive behaviour often happens when life seems too good to be true - a sense of undeservedness overcomes us. Sometimes we seem determined to conform to the hidden blueprint for ourselves, and so the good life must be ruined. Repeatedly.
I used to be like that - many years of my life were lost to depression and self-destruction.
I didnt even know that there was anything wrong, I had no awareness of what was going on in my head. I just existed. Eventually I started to grow into a whole person - it took a long time and I was fortunate to have a few people in my life that were able to direct me towards sources of help. What I learned is that nobody can do it for you - nobody can make you happy, no possession can take away the past, there are no quick fixes. Cliched as it is, change has to come from within - you have to will yourself to do it.
TD asked me to guest blog something, and ordinarily I would have tried to write something witty or sarcastic. Something with little substance I suppose. But I have been confronted by people's baggage a few times recently, and it is hard to see because I know how debilitating it can be.
I also have more than a passing interest in psychology and self-help, so I thought some of my experience on how I confronted and overcame my own personal inner demons might be helpful.
Even if nobody reading this benefits from it today, maybe someone you talk to another time will benefit from something that is said here (whether in comments or this text).
What I write here comes from my past, and my own beliefs about how to help oneself escape the binding past. I am borrowing heavily from a variety of authors, so if you want to know more let me know and I will give you a recommended reading list. All I am seeking to do here is provide food for thought - change is an undertaking far beyond reading a blog post :) TD doesnt want me to write a long essay, so I shall limit this to a few points.
1) Without getting too hippy on you, imagine that you have a finite amount of 'spirit' or 'soul' or 'psychic energy' or 'you' to go around. Imagine that every negative event in your life takes a piece of you - that every unresolved shitty moment in your past has a piece of you stuck to it. Imagine that finding a way to resolve the past can free those pieces of yourself, and that you can become a whole individual.
2) the people around you will have a 'compartment' that they place you in. When you begin to change yourself, the people around you will often seek to shove you back into the compartment they are comfortable with. Dont take this personally, but dont accept it either.
3) you will fail at times. But this is because you are human, and you are working in improving yourself - perfection is unattainable. It's like going on a diet and then slipping up and eating something off limits - if you are like most people, your response is to binge eat in a self-loathing frenzy of depravity. Learn to go easy on yourself - grown-ups say 'yes I fucked up there. I shall do better in future'.
4) Pretend. Define what it is that you want to be - then imagine yourself being there. Pretend that you are that person. Funny thing is, nobody but you knows you are pretending; for the world around you, what you present is what you are.
5) There is no 'finish' - in martial arts, a phrase that resonated for me was 'you only become a master when you die'. Up until that moment you should be learning.
6) Awareness is your best friend. Become self-aware. Search for the truth behind your behaviours - you might be able to fool other people, but you can never really fool yourself. Be honest, look in the mirror, ask yourself for the truth.
I am who I am now because I was (to quote Anastasia) sick and tired of always feeling sick and tired. The desire to change should be nurtured, dont resign yourself to being something you are not happy with.

Too tired, can't brain
The lovely relaxed state my head was in this morning has evaporated...
Sigh.
Work is going to get pretty challenging the next few weeks, wish me luck... Am not allowed to snap, must see this through!
I'm not sure why my brain won't disconnect... it's late and I don't feel as if I had an evening at all, you know? Got home late, waited for Vegas so we could have a bit of time together while walking the dogs, then fed them, we had some dinner, watched a bit o'tv, chitter-chatter and here we are...
Just have time to finish up a load of laundry, have a hot shower and it's hey waddayaknow, in a few hours the cycle rolls over like a dead dog. I'm soooo tired all over again. Need more Easter!
Ah well, at least it will be both hump AND payday tomorrow, that helps.
Oh and Vegas offered to guest post here tomorrow, yay!!
Do come back for a peek then ;-)

We chickened out!
Yep, get gots the chicken fever :-D
After another visit to our house yesterday in the blustery freezing winter wind (still trying to assimilate that we bought a freaking farm... omg omg omg), we decided to keep the chicken coops busy and get a few silkies this summer, see how that goes.
They're practically no work at all, they're fun and I've always wanted clucking hens and a sassy rooster - the eggs we'll get out of it will more than pay for their upkeep so it's a GO!
Oh and the owners gave us a dozen fresh eggs, we had a feast this morning - they really do cook up fluffier and tastier than anything you could ever get in a market. Added some crispy bacon, some buttered toast and hot espresso and yep, Easter Monday brunch.
Mmmmm!
Other than that it's been a pretty quiet past few days...
Lots of driving around, getting pieces of furniture sorted out and socialising but plenty of rest, too. We went for a walk on the mountain this afternoon with the doggies to enjoy the sun a bit and while Vegas jogged, I bumped into a colleague walking his "furry nephew" - this city is sooo small. Holy cow.
What else... Yesterday we exchanged Easter chockit, Vegas ate all of his while I'm still admiring my pretty Godiva bunnies wrapped in foil...
That's the trick, eh? Buy chocolate that's too pretty to eat!
Keeps ya thin! LOL
We finally got around to watching Mel Gibson's "Passion of Christ" last night - thought the timing was too perfect - and I have to say I much prefer Martin Scorsese's "Last Temptation of Christ", at least you get some kind of background story with this version and not just senseless bloody beatings for hours on end. Uggh. Turned my stomach after a while.
Not sure why 95% of people utter Oh God! Oh Jesus! during sex and orgasm, I really don't see the connection here.
Humans are weird.
And this post is sooo disjointed!
All right, need to run out for one last errand to wrap up this 3-day weekend and then the routine kicks in again, bleehhh. At least it's supposed to be sunny and warm the next few days: bonus! Perfect for office work! *sarcastic snicker goes here*

He's hot, and I wish I could dance like that
Yoshimoto - Do What U Do (Trentemöller Remix)
Trentemöller rocks - luurve their original music and their guest remixes! Quite fun what you can find cruising youtube and iTunes on a blue Friday night...
Yeah. We've both got the blahs and don't know why.
Vegas fixes it with xbox games and me, well, I smile longingly at hot chicks dancing and wish I were half that flexible and coordinated. Oh wait, I was! Um, two decades ago. Crap! Maybe not a route I want to wander down tonight, it's fraught with icks and ughs.
If this summer doesn't get my marshmallow ass back into shape, nothing will.
*pokes listlessly at flab*
Oh!! I discovered craigslist today (thanks Prin!) and found an awesome free oak table & chair set that we're going to pick up tomorrow so Vegas will have office furniture when we move. Also found a couple of other super cool pieces of furniture that look promising so feel very satisfied about that. All this to say that I guess getting older ain't all that bad: I may not be able to dance anymore but I can afford my own disco on 12 acres.
So nerr, I win! Screw you Father Time! :-D

Just another Friday
My favorites this morning from fmylife dot com:
Today, my fiance's parents visited. I keep chickens for their eggs, and his parents own a farm, so we had a connection. They told us to leave the house while they cooked us dinner. When we returned, we faced two steaming plates of chicken. My chickens. I'm a vegetarian. They had names. FML
Today, I was in a hurry to get to work. I pulled impatiently behind a long line of cars to make a right hand turn. I sat there for 5 minutes. Turns out there wasn't a line to make a right hand turn. I had been waiting behind a line of parked cars. FML
Today, my boyfriend brought me breakfast in bed, told me all the things he loved about me, got down on one knee and pulled out the little blue box I had been hoping for, for so long. He opened the box and there was a note inside that said, "April Fools!" FML
Today, I was walking slowly and awkwardly down the stairs on my crutches. After two steps, a screw fell out of the left crutch and it collapsed. I now have a broken arm from trying to protect my broken leg as I tumbled down two flights of stairs. FML
Somehow, this makes me having to work on Good Friday while half the other people enjoy a 4-day weekend partly bearable.
I think.
I am soooo leaving the office at 4pm today, like, really: screw it!
Not much else to report, really... No plans for the weekend other than helping a friend shop for her dogs' new raw food diet (gotta introduce her to the good butchers!) and then on Sunday, weather permitting, we're hoping to drive down to our house to take lots of photos and to discuss renos with the current owners. Nothing planned for Monday.
I imagine most of you will enjoy family get-togethers, chockit and church?
Oooo! I have Mel Gibson's "Passion" but have never watched it! OK that's a plan then, gotta make it memorable in some way, love it or leave it.

#2007
Holy moly.
This is my 2007th blog post since the birth of the Bubblegum Diaries some two years ago.
I talk too much :-D
This is my 2007th blog post since the birth of the Bubblegum Diaries some two years ago.
I talk too much :-D
It happens sometimes
I ain't got the blogging mojo tonight.
So instead of boring you with mindless drivel as I usually do, I'll ask YOU to talk to me - cuz I'm lazy but I'm also a curious cat :-)
What's your favorite comfort food?
Bath or shower?
Do you rent or own your home?
How many countries have you visited?
There. Unlurk, people!

Once upon a time...
Once upon a time called "the seventies", way back when parents legally tortured children, there lived a little Technodoll who refused to eat her sammich cuz the bread tasted like soap.
Her mom didn't believe her and thought it was just fussiness, but really: the bread was soooo naaasty! It made her gag!
After a long hour of sitting at the kitchen table, not eating and crying, the poor exasperated momma took a bite of the sammich to show that there was nothing wrong with it.
It was funny to see the piece of bread come flying out so fast, SPITTTT.
Turns out that the momma had cut coupons from the side of a cardboard box of laundry detergent and then stored the coupons in the breadbox. For those still scratching their heads: bread is a giant sponge for odours and don't you forget it!
Mystery solved, child released of torture.
G'nite!

They weren't kidding
Whoever coined the phrase "when it rains, it pours" really nailed it. I'd hand them a flower except there's nothing but muck outside, not one single bud yet. Bummer.
April showers bring May flowers?
It better.
Still sick from that damn chinese food from Saturday night, not only did it mess up my whole Sunday but I woke up green again today and with a thick pounding head, so I called in sick.
30 minutes later, there's a knock on our door: Oh hi, mister officer! What? That car alarm that woke us up at 3:30am this morning was ours? They smashed a window to paw through the glove box to find paltry loot? Geez, um, yeah - thanks. Lovely.
Since it's pissing rain all day, I had to drive the car to the garage asap to get a new window put in, the car should be ready by 5pm... As if I feel like it with this upset stomach and dizzy head?
Awesome!
Car window repair: $255
Taxi from and to the garage: $20
Car insurance deductible: $250
Super awesome! Can't even claim anything!
Stuff stolen from car: $300
House insurance deductible: $300
Even more super awesome! Can't claim that either!
I'm soooo fucking fed up with this stinking, dirty, scummy city... Every year some punk asshole junkie fucks with our car (twisted wipers, paint all keyed, now a smashed window), they're apparently looking for GPS systems that people keep in their glove boxes so even if they see NOTHING in your car, they will still smash in to see if they can find something.
I mean, what the fuck?
I give up, I really do...
June 26th cannot come soon enough. If we had stalled on buying a house and had to be stuck here for another year, I can guarantee I would suffer severe health problems from stress, anger and frustration not to mention pollution and aggravation from the loud, crowded and cramped environment.
I can't bring the dogs anywhere anymore, there are just too many people everywhere. Both dogs have cut their feet on junk and broken glass lately (one of them has been bleeding for two days from a puncture in the pad, it's small but deep - what a mess).
Steady cold rain beating on the windows all day, tomorrow it turns to wet slush.
Yep. Up here in Canada, spring works in reverse!
Start nice and turn shittier and colder by the week! w00t!
Anyhoo. Am trying to rest in the stink of dirty dogs, doing laundry and trying not to freak out too much over stuff I can't do anything about. The weather will get better, my dog's foot will heal, the car will be fixed, my stomach will settle itself eventually.
But just right now?
Not a good day.
In fact it sucks the big fat pink one.

** groan **
I guess I'm too old for chinese take-out and beer (it was only one small glass! granted a lovely 9% but still - bad mix with all the MSG, methinks...) - sigh. Stomach's been green and tender for 24 hours now, it messed up my entire Sunday and I'm mad as a bee stuck in a bonnet.
My poor to-do list is still half full!
Waah :-(
OK maybe not eating anything today before a 1pm brunch of apple french toast and lots of coffee didn't help. What can I say? I'm stupid sometimes! Twas lovely to see Curly and Funboy though, totally worth it.
*grabs more lime perrier and advil*
I'm happy to report that things are progressing with the house: the owners are super nice and are fixing pretty much everything we've asked them to (they're not obligated by paperwork to do anything, by the way) and they will help us with some additional stuff as well.
The guy's a contractor and we've seen his excellent work so it's a win-win situation for everyone: he has very reasonable rates and can do the work now, before we move in so that we can hit the ground running for the business.
Such a relief, you cannot imagine! We're green-behind-the-ears city folk inheriting a freaking FARM here, we'll have to learn as we go...
How often will the giant lawn need to be mowed there? Um, we don't even own a lawnmower! How do you plant a garden? Where to order hay for the horses? OMG there is sooo much to learn...
...and we're freaking EXCITED AS HELL!!
Oh, I better calm down a bit, the green's coming back. Urp. Last night's movie: Pan's Labyrinth (yeah, whatever) and tonight is a rerun of The Dark Knight. RIP Heath, you made the bestest bad guy ever.

Saturday + rainy = stuff
You can take a cold, rainy Saturday and either cry about it or just... get busy.
I got busy sleeping until 11am.
Gawd, that felt good.
Long breakfast, hot latte, some TV, then off to the zoo - er, grocery store - while Vegas endured misbehaving dogs in the soggy field (he's still looking for his voice). Now we're ticking the house cleaning chores off our list while a pot of home-made soup simmers on the stove, the rain beating steadily on the grey windows.
Lights are on,
iPods thumping,
wet dogs stinking and
bellies grumbling.
Looking forward to a movie or two later on, a big bowl of popcorn and some ice-cold beer to cap it off. Life's what you make it, right?
There's a show on dingoes playing on Nat Geo right now - it's amazing how a pack of small hunters can bring down a huge water buffalo in the blink of an eye, a giant fiesta for the clan. Yowza. Lots of Davids and one Goliath. I guess Jeebus had a plan after all.
Time for food!

Keep it sizzlin'
Vegas found us some of this to go with the belly raspberries:

*wipes hands with paper towels*
I forgot to have dessert last night. Well, by the time I remembered it was time for bed so I didn't bother... Is it appropriate to have a banana split sundae for breakfast? No? Dang.
Still boarded up this morning and since the weather forecast for later today and the next few weeks pretty much revolves around rain, scattered showers and perhaps a snow flurry or two I'm not holding up much hope that this effing brickwork will be done anytime soon.
Oh! And!
Figures that last night was THE night the flipping dogs chose to gas us to death with farts as thick as green putrid rot, sooo horrible and retch-inducing - like, WTF?!
Our balcony is blocked so we couldn't put the fart machines outside for any relief... I can still taste the gas in my mouth.
*cries*
OOooO it's Beer Friday at work though! Yey! A distraction!
A weekend of chores looms ahead. Like, *everything* needs to be done. Cleaning, laundry, groceries, cooking, dog grooming, ironing, you name it. I guess it won't matter then that tomorrow's high is near freezing and wet flurries are on the menu. Anybody doing fun stuff the next two days? Inspire me, people!
I'm late for work, I'm boring and my hands are cold.

Thump thump thump
Not my head (for a change), but the brick workers outside our balcony at 7am. The whole damn building is shaking - gaaah!
The shitty scaffolding went up a week ago today, the job's supposed to last two weeks... but they don't work when it rains and it's been raining a lot... they've barely made a dent in the flippin' work.
Yep. It's gonna last for another month, if not more.
*cries*
Speaking of habitat woes... Our rent went up $48 a month, starting July. Can you see the smile on my face? Suckas... We are sooo gone!
On that note, it's a warm sunny day (so they say, not like we can see since our windows and doors are boarded up), have yourselves a lovely tickle or two!

To continue the below thoughts...
Blogland is in deep slumber, might as well sneak this one in.
Thank you for your kind words and support last week when I had a meltdown – it was temporary, they happen less and less frequently and I do learn and grow from them. Sometimes just having a good ol’rant and a foot stomping gets the evil out and life goes on… You know? Am very grateful for the gentle push back on my feet, for not judging me and seeing the road for the potholes. Youse be all great peeps!
And a special thanks to my mom for believing in me and knowing what to say to make me laugh at myself - always.
I do have to say, though: if this was a permanent state of mind and a daily affair then OK, I’d have to re-examine my life, what’s not working, and get myself to a soul mechanic for a tune-up. Life is too short to accept depression as being normal, Mister Funk is nobody’s friend and should be shot down with a bow and arrow straight to the head!
Everybody falls now and then.
As long as you get up, dust yourself off and keep on truckin’, life is one great adventure.
