Best blog award evah!

I'm over a week late in thanking the awesome Daring To Dream for this crazy-awesome blog award, but better late than never (I hope!).

I truly love it! And yep, no matter how dull my blabberings get I can guarantee you they're always 100% honest and all me.

So! I must pass this on to a few fellow bloggers and hope they will also push the great wheel of blog awards forwards: Prin , Dolce , Stesha and Chica (I'm too lazy to list everyone but I'd love for you to grab it too!).

Of course there are "rules"... which are meant to be broken... *clears throat* If you accept the award, you need to list 10 honest things about yourself (and make it interesting, even if you have to dig deep!). OK name 5 if you're as lazy as I am! Then pass the puck.

Here goes nothing:

1 - I fear not being liked by people. There, I said it.

2 - I once had flesh-eating bacteria attack my body. I could have lost a leg.

3 - I find short bald men with hairy chests repulsive.

4 - I've never smoked a cigarette in my life.

5 - It's very difficult for me to trust people... damn baggage!

/end of Yep, It's Scrap But It's Honest! post/

Beer is good brain soap

What a day.

Am completely rinsed out from massive spreadsheets in tiny font, a glaring monitor, stale office air and constant colleague blabla.

So yeah, time for beeeeeer - we're going out to meet some friends tonight and try to relax a little. Perhaps then the elusive sleep will kick in...

Funny how routines change little by little and then one day you go "hey! we used to be in bed and asleep by 11pm max, now it's past midnight and we can't sleep so no wonder we're retarded zombies all day!"

What the hell is that all about!

I tried to be a good MSM buddy today but failed (sorry Curly, sorry Prin...). Just too much going on, including more disappointments on the real estate front. We're getting a new agent so hopefully that will help...

Still seeing that strange property on Saturday but going in with low expectations cuz the photos are just so uninspiring. But. It does tick a few of our "needs" list, just not really our "wants". Sigh. Having a tiny budget sucks ass.

Yes, I did buy a lottery ticket yesterday but got nothing.

Psssssh. What a crock :-D

Anybody else here love edemame beans as a snack or as dinner? Or am I, once again, a social outcast?

My brain is 80 years old

Yep. That's what the Nintendo DS Brain Age thingie is telling me. The balls! OK fine, I've let the grey matter vegetate a bit the past couple of decades... but still - 80!!

I have my work cut out for me.

*itches to train brain*

Oh and yes, that was a bday gift from Vegas... he also surprised me with a gorgeous bouquet of yellow flowers (I took photos this morning, will post tomorrow), a delicious picnic in our living room and a foot rub! Rrrrrrrr.

Thank you to everyone for the birthday wishes both here and on Facebook, you guys are the best!

I'm terribly late for work again. Rats. My latte is too hot so I'm blogging instead, in my jammies, trying to care... not succeeding very much... oh well. What does excite me, though, is that we're going to look at another property for sale this weekend! I found it on the web and our real-estate agent is arranging the visit and stuff. Yey!

What's exciting about this place is that a) it's close to the city which means an easy commute for Vegas as well as future customers and b) it's within our budget with the right-sized lot and c), the best part: it already has a big dog kennel built behind the house! So that solves our money problem: it costs less to convert and upgrade a building then build one from scratch.

Please wish us luck that this isn't too good to be true!

Almost Duran Duran...

...but not quite.

"The Reflux" has been playing in our stomachs since last night's dinner and fuck Maalox and Pepto Bismol, they don't work!

The company was super nice and we had a great time, they spoiled me with Godiva Hot Chocolate mix and chocolate pearls and a hilarious pink lion that purrs and vibrates when you pinch his paw (or just look at him) and yes: lots of sex jokes were made, LOL!

The cajun food was sooo disappointing though.

Ever since the restaurant owner left it's gone downhill and that's too bad... it used to be such a yummy place. Now everything's deep fried to death and so spicy you can't taste a thing. On top of that it's overpriced and the service is sloooooow. So yeah. We're not going back there again!

I can't even have my cuppa coffee this morning lest the caffeine enlarges the burning holes in my stomach lining.

*mutter*

Or maybe I'm just getting old, what do I know.

Today's a repeat of sun and satan's-ass-cold, I'll go spend some time at the book store while Vegas does his house chores (he he - good husband!) and yeah, that's about as exciting as it gets for today.

I hope your stories are better!

Just another Saturday

Bleddy cold outside. Sun does nothing to temper the biting arctic wind, but it's good on the eyes. Slept late-ish, ran some errands, bummed around on the 'net for most of the afternoon. Things could be worse!

Dinner at a cajun resto with friends tonight, gonna be tasty fun. Tummy already grumbling. Need a shower and an advil, just want to nap... zzz.

Sleep's broken web

When you have insomnia, you're never really asleep,
and you're never really awake.

~From the movie Fight Club, based on the novel by Chuck Palahniuk

Any lurkers out there?

This is your chance to wave hello - indulge me a little! I know I have a few faithful readers but it's hard to really know who reads my daily crap... So. Yeah. John Hancock this blog!

Or else seventeen innocent kittens will die.

(he he)

I'm on a high again despite the financial blocks that are preventing me from being fully enthusiastic about building my own little dog hotel. Holy mother of allah is it going to cost a fortune. Short of winning a small chunk of change from the lottery, I don't know what to do... The bank will only lend me so much money and it's not even enough to cover half of the business start-up costs!

*flails arms in the air*

And no, I have no rich uncles or anything who are on the verge of dying and leaving me inheritance. Nada, zilch.

And yes, we will be scrambling to get as much help as possible to do the work ourselves but the costly things have to go to professionals (architect, contractor for flooring and building shell, electrician, plumber, permits, bla bla bla). And thems not cheap.

Anyone have any brilliant ideas on how to raise cash, fast??

My head is spinning... but it's at least screwed on tight and we're going ahead with the project, no matter what. It'll be a couple months later than planned cuz right now there are no suitable properties for sale, which is OK: I believe Karma has something really sweet lined up for us so in the end, it will all have been worth it.

I promised myself that before I hit 40, I'd have some big dreams under my belt: owning my own house, doing a job I love: all coming very soon! Finding the man of my dreams and getting married was just a bonus, so I consider myself lucky... *clears throat*

So! Happy Friday everyone, make it count!

PS: the current poll is making me laugh my arse off: WTF, people! LOL

PPS: don't forget the little post voting buttons in the pink box just below... I loves them. So should you!

A most special wedding present

How lucky can a girl be to have such wonderful friends?

I came home Tuesday evening to find a bright pink package in my mailbox, all fresh from a long trip from Wales, UK. Yes! It was from Sian! See, this lady knows wool. And yarn. And cashmere and everything in between. She spins, she dyes, she crochets, she weaves magic into beautiful pieces you want to sink your hands and face into and oh, why don't I just show you!

How pretty is this? One for me, one for Vegas!

Not only did Sian crochet a beautiful and unique scarf for me, there was also a hat! I love, love, love it! You'd have to feel it against your skin to understand how soft, squishy and amazing it is... and the colours are to die for. *sighs blissfully*

She also made a beautiful, squishy-soft caramel and chocolate-coloured scarf for Vegas, the wool came from a British breed sheep called a Blue Faced Leicester cuz well, hims a Brit! LOL! Oh and my goodies are a silk and wool blend, plyed with cashmere - everything hand-spun and crocheted with love! Just look at the detailing (click for larger pic):

...and... there was also a hand-made beaded heart carefully wrapped in a fairy's pouch, how beautiful is that! Perfect for wearing on a thin silver chain - I love it!

I truly encourage you to visit Sian's Etsy Shop, she has absurd talent that I am proud to now know about first-hand. This one was a gift but I hope she accepts custom orders... I am addicted and would love to have more and I will be absolutely delighted to purchase anything she has for sale, it's a real treat.

Oh gosh - I'm just brimming with gratitude and all emotional about her generosity and kindness. I hope she knows how much she's made me (and Vegas!) happy.

Modern evolution

Man is the only creature that refuses to be what he is.
~Albert Camus

Blushing like a heatstroke victim

I've had the utmost pleasure of receiving not one, but two new blog awards the past week that I must share with you... First, from the lovely Surfergrrl:

“This blog invests and believes the PROXIMITY - nearness in space, time and relationships! These blogs are exceedingly charming. These kind bloggers aim to find and be friends. They are not interested in prizes or self-aggrandizement. Our hope is that when the ribbons of these prizes are cut, even more friendships are propagated. Please give more attention to these writers! Deliver this award to eight bloggers who must choose eight more and include this cleverly-written text into the body of their award.”

I'll do more than that... I will award it to my top ten blog commenters, who keep me on my toes with a pitchfork on my butt - ha ha, not really. But I do write for you guys :-)

Then, from the zany Lady Banana - this super-cute and heart-warming award:

This one goes to all my other commenters, lurkers and passersby. It takes a whole harem to keep this chic happy (and one bad pun to scare everyone away... aie aie aie).

I've got chills, they're multiplying...

...cuz it's bleddy cold again! Brrr brrrr... just sipping on my ultra-hot latte right now, panicking as the minutes vanish into thin air and OMG I'm going to be late for work at this pace!

Can't blame Obama's inauguration either, I'm a Canuck.

I think the awful PMS is gone now and even with the horror of my approaching birthday, I'll be ok. I think. I'd feel better if I didn't have this deep wrinkle between my eyes from squinting, it makes me look angry all the time (and I swear I'm not, LOL!).

So we met with our wonderful mortgage broker yesterday, that's one more thing to cross off our list. With any luck, the bank paperwork will come back to us next week and we're good to go! Well, sort-of...

Of course it's never that easy because our situation is a twister (the money needed to fund the dog hotel construction is an issue), we love challenges, we do!

Hey! I got to see my credit report for the first time, too! Mine is a diamond wearing a tramp's stinky oily coat, for some reason. I totally freaked out until the broker explained how to interpret the report - I mean come ON, I'm as clean as a whistle I know I am! But the score wasn't exactly stellar... and apparently that doesn't really matter as long as you're above a certain number.

Vegas, don't say it. DON'T.

OK I'm beyond boring right now, time to slap on some clothes and get to jail. Work, I meant work.

Stuck at home yet again with another @#%$! migraine that just won't quit. At this rate I'm going to get fired from my job :-(

Brain dump

Maybe if I let some crap out of my stuffed brain, I stand a chance of getting some much-needed sleep tonight - I'm pissed to be MORE tired on a Sunday night then I was two nights ago. Gaaah! How does this shit happen?!

Stupid time of the month - go away! You piss me off and render me useless!

How my poor hubby Vegas puts up with me, I don't know...

(he he. I said "hubby")

We visited our first property yesterday - um, it was quite trippy, to put it mildly. Actually the more hours that passed after the visit, the more we laughed and wondered WHAT the HELL that was all about.

That century-old house needs to be bulldozed down and put out of its misery - it would cost twice as much to put it into a livable condition than it would to scrap it and build a brand-new one in its place. The location and size of the land were great though, so I'm a bit sad about that. The land itself, however: a giant scrapyard belted by a train track, what a pity. Not to mention the enormous hydro tower a few meters from the house and, on the other side, a neighbor in a tiny shack. It was ludicrous.

Did we mention the huge rusty iron boat on wooden blocks next to a half-collapsed barn housing an old tractor? Yep. "Bonus, it comes with the house!"

*Gee, thanks*

Ah well, one down and dozens to go, I guess. If it wasn't for the difficulty in getting this damn dog kennel permit we'd almost have a house by now.

Whirlwind of a weekend has left me feeling like a stump of cement, and half as smart. And I'm getting fatter, I can't stand it. Stress has me snacking and the cold has me strapped to the couch, what's a girl to do?

On my way to Costco this afternoon, after dropping Vegas off at the cinema (boy's movie time) the radio seemed intent on playing early to mid 1990's music that put me in a strange funk. It was happy stuff that had me singing but my heart turned blue and I couldn't help thinking where the HELL have the past fifteen years of my life gone?

And I missed being 23 again.
And I missed being 27 again.

And all those years before, in-between and after that... even if my life is infinitely "better" now, it's still 2009.

All this to say... I feel the pressure of time squatting on my head, whispering in my ear "your best years are counted now, hurry hurry hurry!". Fucking voice won't shut up much these days, and I'm tired of running. Tired of waiting for life to start, somehow. Tired of wondering what I'm supposed to be doing. Wondering where has my life gone and why can't I get it back?

I've got too much to do before I die, dammit.

Somebody, please stop the clock! PLEASE!

I *knew* I should have waited!!

I just read a super disturbing yet oddly appealing blog post on Roshan's site about a girl who is auctioning off her viginity to the highest bidder in order to finance her studies and - no, really, you have to go read this. It's for real and it's GOOD.

And to think that I gave mine away in such a horrid fashion.

*shakes fist*

Hey, guess what: we're off to visit a property this afternoon! We'd seen it before on the "for sale by owner" ads but didn't really look into it as it's an old century house that needs a lot ot TLC (read: it's pretty run down). However, we've come to realise that with our budget we'd get either the land, the location or the house but not all three... getting two out of three isn't too bad, IMO.

I hope we like it and that it has the potention we think it does... will keep you posted :-)

Have a great day everyone!

Rêverie

Once you choose hope, anything's possible.
~Christopher Reeve

Slam! said the door... creak! said the window

Negative on the dog permit for the dream place we wanted to visit tomorrow... Crap! Sometimes joojoo works, sometimes it doesn't - am not giving up hope!

We've been scouring the real-estate ads to no avail, and our agent is also at a dead end although she is confident the perfect property WILL show up soon, it's just not on the market yet.

It would be a cinch if our "sweet spot" wasn't so narrow (the triangle between Location, Budget and Dog Kennel Permit) but alas, it's the size of a needle's eye so we have to be patient.

Not my forte.

But hey, it's Friday and it's sunny, it's still Siberian Hell but what can ya do. Bundle up, hide inside and earn those pennies, why don't you. *sigh*

Oh I forgot to mention that "the song" we played at our 4-minute wedding was Rick Astley's Never Gonna Give You Up - he he. Twas most funny and I think everyone had a good laugh (except that sourpuss Judge). I hope she gets warts all over her face tomorrow.

Off to jail, er - work, now. Ta!

On pins and needles

My gosh I hate waiting... we've found an awesome property that we want to go check out this weekend BUT we first need to find out if the municipality would grant the dog permit we need to start the business... GACK! A few more hours and we'll know if it's yay or nay.

Joojoo, people - we need lots and lots of positive joojoo!

Pretty please :-)

So, it's still bleddy siberianesque cold today and we won't see the end of it until early next week. Days like these I'm grateful we have "winter dogs" or else they'd be tearing up the place with overflowing energy (just ask Myself! LOL).

I'm also really grateful that our landlord is so lovely, we got a new hot water tank installed yesterday - bliss!

I had bumped into her at the grocery store on Monday and mentioned the problem... 2 days later, new tank. I'll miss her when we're gone :-(

*burns tongue on überhot latte*

Just found out that Vegas' new employer is cutting 10% of their world-wide workforce soon. Holy shit, that's like 600 jobs or something. He better be safe or we're completely and utterly fucked. He says he's ok, but it still sends a chill down my spine...

Enough rambling, I gots to get my arse to work.

I mean... oh, c'mon you know what I meant! Sheesh.

~Lin Yutang

I'm scared

It's cold out there. Like, even the ice isn't happy about the weather.

-36C (-33F) with the wind chill, and it's windy.

Maybe the walk to work will help me wake up... maybe if I do a post à la Prin - ie, numbers! - this will make more sense.

Number of hours slept last night: 4
Hours slept the night before: 5
Number of properties researched online all evening: 673
Properties found that are interesting: 0
Number of wrinkles around my tired eyes: 187 each

We'll have to revise our search criteria cuz this is going nowhere fast... damnit, why can't we have a million bucks to spend and then there would BE no problems in finding a place! I hate being poor!

*cries*

I still haven't managed to visit any blogs yet, I'm obsessed with finding a property or two to visit over the fast-approaching weekend as time is flying by and oh man, we need to have landed something in two months and aaaaaaaaaaaa!

Need to remember to breathe and live a little, I know, I know.

Coffee: gulped. Breakfast: inhaled. Makeup: slapped on. Doggies: need to be fed. Jammies: need to be shed. Work: needs to fuck off, but I can't so I won't and off I go.

A hunnert miles per hour

That's how fast time flew by the past few days... mon dieu!

The wedding ceremony lasted all of what, four minutes? I blinked and it was over. I though we'd have to exchange vows or something, anything, I was still trying to get my bearings and pow! Done. WTF? It didn't help that we got stuck with the suckiest, most sour old bitch maid judge that ever got shat out of the Grinch's butt.

But whatever. The family and friends that were there more than made up for it, we even had two photographers to capture the whirlwind! How lucky can a bride be? :-)

Thanks to Myself for this one:

And thanks to Prin for these three, among many:
The crazy outfit that I found in my wardrobe, sitting there doing nothing. Might as well have a party with all the bojangles!

My mom, sister and moi, sharing a lovely moment. Awe!

"OMG we did it, baby... we finally did it. Bliss!"

We then drove off for a couple days to a romantic inn where the food was tasty but pretentious, the views stunning, the staff super lovely, the moonlit sleigh ride through the white forest magical even if it was freezing cold (it added to the charm), the beds were très uncomfortable and I got alcohol poisoning - I really, really cannot drink champagne or any fizzy wine, I learned my lesson.

All in all, though, a most amazing weekend! w00t!

I can't freaking believe I'm a wife now. He he.

Our plans for the house and dog hotel are striding along at a fast pace, we met with a real-estate agent yesterday and the race is ON, baby. Life is in 5th gear now... finally.

Gotta run to work, was bogged down by a migraine this morning but am OK to face the working world now for a few days. Will visit your blogs tonight to see what you're all up to, it's been too long! And thank you for all your wonderful wishes, you guys really touched our hearts!

This is it!!

Now sing the tune, ladies and gents... "Goin' to the chapel and we're, gonna get married, and we're... bla bla bla I forget the words!" Well it's not a chapel but you get the idea.

I'm about to faint from nerves.

I wish I looked like this instead:

I think Vegas wishes I looked that, too... hmm!

I'll be back online Monday night after our super short but hopefully lovely honeymoon in the countryside - hope you all have a great weekend, stay warm, be good, don't do anything I wouldn't do. Like eat liver or use recycled toilet paper.

A most special blog award

The sweet Wayfaring Wanderer thought to give the Bubblegum Diaries this fabulous award a few days ago:

It's like it was made for me... Thank you WW, it is truly appreciated :-)

I'm supposed to pass it along to my favorite bloggers but A) I have very little blogging time and B) I can't possibly choose since you're all fab, so... please take it, brag about it, pass it along!

w00t!

You guys are weird! LOL!

The poll is currently showing the exact opposite of what I would choose and thought others would pick, too. Who the hell wants to shake hands with a foot?!

*shakes head in bewilderment*

I'm tired. Long day at work, long walk with the furkids in the messy icy field, tedious grocery shopping (we're being snowed in for the next couple of days so I made sure we wouldn't starve, he he), then dinner, cleaning up, fed the kids, the Christmas tree was stripped and the living-room cleaned of all debris... I'm pooped.

Time to finish that glass of wine, burn the `wedding CD` - OMG we picked an awesome song, ha ha! - and then get this butt to beddy-bed.

Life is under control but Mother Nature is whacked out on crack, I hope tomorrow's snowstorm won't be as bad as the news predicts it will be... effing media, always trying to create panic. Half the freaking grocery store shelves were empty and all the milk was frozen! Never seen anything like it.

Tonight's convo:

Vegas: I have a black eye.
TD, peering at said black eye: You twit! Three days before the wedding!
Vegas: Well normally I don't get black eyes from grappling.
TD: Thanks for making me look like a husband-beater.

Ah well, things could be worse... he could have lost a tooth or something since he went at it bare-headed with no mouth guard or anything. Silly boys and their need for sweating testosterone in white suits!

Leaving you with a quote now... g'nite!

You better believe it

~Kelvin Throop

One foot forwards

Strange to be writing a post on a Sunday night so it publishes on a Monday morning, when I am (hopefully) in a deep sleep.

What? I like the nutjob effect!

Right now Vegas is playing a new xbox game and I'm yawning so hard I'm about to unhinge my own jaw. We're both dreading going back to work (who isn't?) but at least we have next weekend to look forwards to...

About the wedding:

It's small. I mean, really small. Like justice-of-the-peace and four family members small. 30 minutes and it's a done deal, then we can go have a nice brunch and get the hell out of the city for three lovely days in a posh inn out in the eastern townships.

Then one day, we'll do a proper wedding with a party, booze and our feet in white sand. Yep, one practical wedding and then a romantic one.

Why do things the conventional way? LOL!

Did I mention my goals for 2009 yet? I wrote them down in my head the other day and I ran out of room. Good thing Vegas is getting me a Nintendo Brain Age thingie for my birthday, to help ward off dementia and all that, seeing as I'm getting so old.

*clears throat*

So, this year shall see us getting married, me celebrating my 39th birthday, us buying a house and moving out of the city, building up our own business from scratch which will include home and land renovations, then me finally fulfilling my dream of working from home with dogs as my focus while Vegas grows his career to fit his talents - he has to bring home the bacon until our business takes off, which might take a year or two. Crossing fingers it'll be less than that.

Um, I think I need to go lay down and get some sleep now... My neck is sore from craning, trying to see over the huge mountain top that is right in front of us.

But hey, I put it there and the view's just fine.

Really :-)

Saturday, January 3, 2009

I'm sorry to report that...

...One of my new year's resolutions - well, just about the only one! - is to spend less time blogging and more time reading books instead. Don't get me wrong, I love blogging! And that's perhaps my downfall. Rats.

I love reading juicy novels and I really miss those moments of escapism and relaxation. I have a shelf full of awesome books clamoring for attention right now, and we're just heading out to the bookstore to get more... Yeah, I know - priorities and all that.

Life is going to get super busy very soon so I need to get a grip in advance!

The wedding is next Saturday morning, still have lots of stuff to prepare.

Work starts again on Monday for both of us, no more breaks or slacking off - it'll be brutal and leave very little time for leisure activities so I need to chose them well.

We're starting to sketch out a rough draft of our business plan and what we need to do to get there in four months. Since the first step is buying a property, we need to schedule appointments with banks, mortgage brokers, real-estate agents and the like... and then start the long search for the perfect place. I imagine this will suck up most of our weekends so that leaves weeknights for house chores and the like.

Whoopee :-)

So as you can see, maintaining three blogs on a daily basis isn't very feasible anymore.

*cries*

I guess change is inevitable in order to leave room for growth and actually, it feels pretty damn liberating. Of course I'll still be around blogland, I'm not abandoning anything! Just taking it a bit easier, that's all.

Hope to still have you all as company for the bumpy yet exciting road ahead, there will be alot of changes in a short period of time - for starters, I only have three more months in the office and then I am done, if all goes according to plan. I'm about to burst with happy mojo!

OK off to run errands, Vegas needs decent clothing to get married in. I already have my dress and shoes (huge relief), hope to have pics to share with you next week!
