Do you really think it's unconditional? I always think there's a bit of a pact going on - feed me, walk me, play with me and show me you love me, and I'll love you forever.

Cats are similar - feed me, clean up my shit, pick up my hair, stroke me when I want you to, and in return I'll do what the hell I like.

Dogs as a role model for being alive? What sort of person says that? "Yes, I live my life as a dog. I shit in fields, hump anything that moves, eat fox shit, chase cars and sniff ass at every opportunity". Maybe she's onto something - sounds like a good Friday night out!

Unconditional... totally. If you doubt that then go visit a shelter where you will find hundreds, if not thousands of discarded and/or abused and tortured dogs... who are ready to pour their love on any human that looks their way. They forgive, but they never forget - how magical and unconditional is that?

Is it unconditional though? Surely what they are expressing is the desire to be loved and to return it. Unconditional implies that if you abuse the dog it will still love you.

Just saying...

That is exactly what I am saying... dogs will still love you even if you abuse them. It will still consider you its master and family and will be loyal to you until the end. Does that imply honor or an effacing sense of self-worth? Doesn't matter. They are God's creatures with all virtues and no faults... except maybe that their lives are so short.
