Oh em gee

Well, the house inspection went super well - it showed us just how crappy that place was!

Let's see... mold under the roof, seven cracks in the foundation (some on every side of the house), two water infiltrations that happened the past week due to such cracks, a roof at the end of its life and I won't go into the details of all the other stuff.

But.

We didn't even need the inspection to realize there is no way in fucking hell we would ever move to such a place when my brother pointed to the "nice" side of the property... which was lined in its entirety by hundreds of rusted cars piled on top of each other. Like, one kilometer long of junkyard hell. There must have been over 500 cars, ready to be recycled. So with the house's surface well just besides all that crap, can you imagine the land contamination?!

I almost fainted.

Last time we were there (our first visit) it was bitterly cold and windy, all the junk was covered by snow so we saw nothing: just white beyond the trees. It all looked fine. But last week we had very mild weather, lots of snow melted and voila. The blanket came off the turd.

Can you imagine how pissed we all are? I mean, we wasted $620 on a four-hour inspection and hours of time and energy on a property we would never have made an offer on if this garbage had been declared to us in the first place. Our agent was livid when I told her about it, with just cause.

Oh, and the titty bar next door? My brother said that the "appartments" a few feet away from the house's kitchen was where the dancers earned extra money, if you got the drift. Biker heaven in the summer. Not to mention the OTHER scrap yard a few hundred feet from the property's entrance, on the other side of the road...

My god, how could we have been so blind and so stupid.

They couldn't PAY ME to live in that horrid toxic wasteland.

*hangs head in shame*

So, it is with an immense sense of relief and a tad of disappointment that we are back to the drawing board. Just need to clear the paperwork today that gets us out of the Purchase Offer and that's that.

I never liked that run-down caca-coloured bungalow anyways, it was anything but the house of my dreams. We're meant for greater things and we will find it! That dog boarding kennel business will be mine, and it will be mine this summer!

I know I have sounded unenthusiastic about this house, but I had a feeling, it was my Pisces intuition working.

Suggestion for you, because of zoning etc, out the west end of the island, Hudson, Ste Laz area - kennelling isn't a huge issue in horse country.

Although the people out there sometimes leave a bit to be desired in a very snotty way.

Glad you didn't go thru with it...what a nightmare, see, the list I gave you? It had almost all the bad structural shite.

$620 was NOT wasted...it was well worth the price so you didn't spend MORE money :)

Bah, there are other fish in the sea. And millions of houses on the land to choose from. Whatever will be will be. :)

Oh, and can you imagine that people buy houses without inspections? How the hey?

we really did dodge a bullet with this one - I started panicking when I saw the cars; it was like a horror film when the camera pans out to show more and more 'bad things' to the audience. All we needed was the psycho violins playing in the background.

We both feel really sorry for the vendor - he is sick and cannot look after the place properly anymore. Whilst we're both not so kind-hearted that we'll take a stinker off his hands, it's not to say we don't feel for him. I bet that this has happened to him before.

Prin - you're spot on, it is incomprehensible to me that anyone would buy a house without an inspection.

The other good thing about this house falling through is that we managed to iron out a whole bunch of creases. We're back on track again :) (albeit a lot further away from our destination than we thought yesterday morning).

Hurray for melted snow!

buying a house is so stressful. I feel your pain, honestly. I wish you the BEST of luck. That house sounded disgusting. I'm glad you back out of that fire.

Oh wow!!! I'm so glad its true colors were revealed to you before you purchased it. I know it sucks to be back and square one, but that would have been so much worse.

Sorry it's back to the drawing board, but I'm so glad that you didn't get stuck with that!

OMG I can't believe they never told you guys about the cars. That reminds me of a horror movie. It stinks you had to waste your time, but is better that you found out before you bought it!
