My sweet little girl Angel laid her first egg this morning, however she suffered a prolapsed uterus, I had to remove the egg by making an incision in the membrane holding the egg prisoner halfway out of her body (she was in pain and bleeding), it was a terrible ordeal and it's not over...

I have no idea if she will be OK - she's resting crated in the bathroom right now, her insides are still bulging out of her vent - poor little one... It's so not fair!! She likely has a malformation of her reproductive organs - her next egg will determine her fate: if it passes through, she will live - if it gets stuck again she will have to be put down before suffering a long, agonizing death... She needs your prayers for recovery, people... please!
*hands are still shaking, why does everything that can go wrong happen in six short months?*Needless to say that kinda wrecked my day, I feel useless and my nerves are shot to pieces. I managed to run some errands, take care of the dogs and do a load of laundry but that's it.
I wish I didn't care so damn much, it would make pet-keeping a helluva lot easier.
Right, time to feed the furries, find something to eat and then I'm going to soak in a hot bubble bath, screw this. I want to be able to sleep tonight.
Apologies for the downer post, hopefully tomorrow will be better.

((HUGS)) I am so sorry. Don't feel bad about a down post, this is life and we want to help. I will say a prayer for sweet Angel. I know how much you love them, they are all your family.

Oh wow. How sad, I am sorry for you and Angel. Sending good vibes your way....keep us posted!
Angel, good luck!
I also noticed that you have chicks AND are planning on hatching more... please be careful. I say this as a person who tends to get a new hobby and go overboard myself. A few years ago I hatched some chicks and got some more six months later and all of the chores and carpentry was a task, and I'm still not where I'd like to be with my chickens. Also, I don't think you'll be able to integrate the two flocks without A LOT of trouble-- are you ready for the possibility of having to keep them separated?
Sorry for the downer comment, but I wish someone would have had this talk with me, too.
Oh, poor Angel and poor YOU.
I hope today that things are better.
sending prayers and cyber hugs to you both.
sending lots of positive healing vibes to angel and yourself and hope things are not as bad as they seem right now (((hugs))) Xxx
Is she okay? Poor little thing, she's lucky to have you. It's hard to care so much, but it makes you the compassionate person you are. I hope she's okay!
Poor little chicky and poor you :( I hope everything works out *hugs*.
Hope she's doing better now . . . do keep us posted.
Feel Better sweet Angel
Thank you so much everyone - please keep those prayers coming, she has made a recovery BUT her next egg is due in a day or two and that will determine her fate... if she prolapses again there is nothing we can do for her... I am hoping for a miracle, that all will go normally... slim chance but there IS a chance!!
Have you tried treating the prolapse? I have a bird that had the same problem when she first started laying. We kept her inside and cleaned the prolapse daily with saline solution and then used preparation h to massage it gently back into place. it did pop back out several times, but eventually once the swelling goes down the uterus is able to go back inside the vent. the prep h really works.
i still have the bird whom this happened to and she's happy and healthy, laying everyday. don't give up on your baby! do everything you can to help her!
