Got turkey?

No? Well... I do! :-D

I'm not sure how it happened but after re-homing Arthur yesterday (one of my young roosters), I ended up coming home with two young heritage bronze turkeys, of all things! Ha ha!

I had been thinking of venturing into the turkey egg business at some point, maybe after we'd moved, but apparently life has other plans for me (ie, not waiting and just going for it). Am very pleased as these two girls come from an excellent line and should begin laying in June or July.
Chicken egg on top, two turkey eggs on the bottom:

Turkey eggs apparently taste almost like chicken eggs,
perhaps a bit more rich and flavorful.

Right now the girls are small and just starting to feather in, they're very human-shy but in a few weeks they should come around and grow up to be big, beautiful and friendly girls. People say to be careful because you can get really attached to turkeys as they have great personalities and are very endearing - guess we'll see, eh?

What an adventure!

I'm finally getting my camera back today so I'll post a few pics of Darla and Loulou by this weekend :)

In other news, our contractor is finishing up the basement and making a few repairs around the house this week, it's shaping up really nice. Soon time to take that plunge and put up the "For Sale" sign...

I don't know why this makes me sad, but it does. :(

It'll be nice to finally settle down somewhere, put down some roots and really feel like it's home and not some other temporary arrangement. I guess we've just put soooo much into this place, it's a bit hard to let go you know? Plus where-ever we move to will be a downgrade so that's blah.

*takes deep breath*

OK, time to change into work clothes and get dirty.

Wooo!

*end of Feel My Rough Worker Hands! post/

Leave it to you to come home with more creatures! What ever will you do when you move? Hopefully you'll be able to move to a place where you are able to continue your egg business and watch your chickies and turkeys grow. Can't wait to see pix!

I hear you on the wanting to find some place to settle down and grow roots . . .

Happy Thursday.

Turkey's??? TUrkEyS?????
You are something.
You are Dr. Doolittle. Or maybe Noah. Where is your ark?
So do people buy turkey eggs to eat, or to hatch?
I saw roosters/hens for sale today. guess who I thought of?

I don't know how you can not be sad. Even I'm sad. What are the odds your new house will have 7,000 bathrooms for me to hide in? :(

It's not a downgrade, think of how much less cleaning you'll have to do. Now THAT's an upgrade!

I have had turkey eggs before, they are pretty good. Congrats on the new turkeys!

Kathryn, one of the main criteria for our new place will be enough land (and a permit) for the new chicken coop - can't wait! Selling eggs to friends and family is a complete thrill, I love it :)

Busy Bee, you thought of meeeee! LOL! Most people buy turkeys to fatten up and eat, some keep them for pets and/or eggs... I'm just doing it for the eggs as I have heard they are very good and there should be a small market for it.

Curly, only if we move for Florida!

Just Breathe, I can't wait to get my first turkey egg next summer!!

Prin, I know! *cries*

Piper, I sure hope so... Just hope to be lucky in all this process.

Jen, well OK when you put it THAT way! *grin*

Sweet T, I'm not crazy about ducks... funny, eh? But you never know!!

Frank, one turkey egg = one omelet. Want some? :-D

Those eggs look like art, they are simply beautiful. Nature is an amazing artist.

Congrats on getting your camera back, can't wait to see those pictures!

And mixed feelings about leaving...this I understand well. All good things come to an end, but it doesn't make it any less difficult. Even good things can be difficult.
