Not much time for blogging lately - hope you're all having a dryer summer than we are here in this boggy place!
Shitty summer that never was. Grrrr.
I injured my thumb weeding yesterday and got no sleep so I *may* be a bit ranty right now.
11:30am and just sipping my first coffee of the day, after getting up at 6am to drive hubby to the bus station, fixing the chicken coop to split the girls in two groups (the little one will NOT stay penned up by herself so I put the silkies in with her since they're the nice hens), taking care of the dogs and then attending this godawful 2-hour seminar on finding a job. You don't go, the gov'ment cuts you off. So I went.
Need a shower but will wait until the chores are done.
Just gonna get all stinky again anyways.
Speaking of stink: chickens smell. Well their poop does, and holy shit do they ever crap. I hope I get used to this and that they produce lots of super-duper eggs in a month or so cuz man, they're work.
Of course it's all new and their setup isn't ideal yet, it takes a week for them to get used to living in a new place and to not fear humans so we're all adjusting to each other right now.

Wow, sounds like you have had quite a lot going on. And that 2 hour seminar sounds painful. As if people don't know how to go about looking for a job. Hmmm . . .

Apparently we had a big thunderstorm a few nights ago...but everything had already dried up by the time I awoke.

Oh, and about the chickens, I thought you had an idea of how bad they were..they really stink!

Frank, if only it was like that here. In the mornings it's a wet-o-thon... ah well at least no lawns need to be watered.
Daring, nope I had no idea - it's a bit of a shock but I'll get used to it. What I need to correct now is the HUGE amount of fine dust that the bedding and scratchings generates - it's horrid!
Teehee. Just wait till the girls get bigger and poop bigger... You're gonna really hate it on hot muggy days when there is no wind what so evah. Let's just hope you don't have any "stupid" hens in your bunch that lay their egg then proceed to poop ON it... I had 2 like that LMAO. Invest in window fans for the coop, you're gonna need em
Ever pass by industrial chicken farms? They are the stinkiest places on the freaking PLANET!!!
Zedder, the dogs will get the dirty eggs LOL! In the summertime they have access to a big pen with a tree in it for shade so hopefully they'll be smart enough to poop there. Hopefully!
WW, I disagree. Pig farms are far, far worse! In fact any industrial farming of animals reeks :(
