If it's broke, well then, fix it!

Learn from my mistake here ;-)

We had a little "star fracture" in the car's windshield last spring, or maybe it was summer - you know, you're driving along and bam! a flying rock hits your screen and there you go.

I went to the repair shop and they quoted me $50 to get it fixed, maybe free if we had good insurance, and it would take 30 minutes. Only thing was they were full and I had to come back the next day, no appointment needed. How cool was that?

Only thing... I never took the car back.

I figured I would "do it later".

This "later" turned into months which turned into a giant windshield fracture a couple of weeks ago, thanks to water infiltrating the tiny crack and ice expansion doing the rest.

New diagnosis? Complete windshield replacement needed. Cost: $850, of which our insurance deductible was $250. Plus a half day of having no car.

That is how to blow $200 really fast, people.

*oh, the shame and the fury*

But wait, it doesn't stop there. The brand new windshield they installed had a manufacturer's defect, a distortion on the passenger side - you know those funhouse mirrors that have a wave that make you thin and fat as you stretch up and down? Yeah, like that only add motion sickness since you're moving. It was horrible.

I just went today to get yet another windshield installed, that's more time out of my day and inconvenience, to boot. No it didn't cost anything as it was guaranteed work, but still! The aggravation of it all!

So, if it's broken... for the love of god get it fixed, now!

Don't be stupid like I was and wait!

It sucks this happened, but I'm glad I'm not the only one who does things like this.

Time IS money, eh?

I had a tiny little fracture in my windshield just like that last winter. Of course I put it off until it fractured all the way across. Luckily I have good insurane. $100 and they sent someone to the house to do the job which took less then an hour.

Meh. Windshields are one of the few car repairs that are kind of worth it. My windshield is almost at the point of being opaque in the sun because it's so scratched. I've gotten chipped a hundred times already, but the one that was an instant spider was the most aggravating. But meh. *shrugs* What's the worst that can happen? It shatters? It's just an excuse for me to get a transparent window one day. :D

Nightmare! I find that when I've saved up enough cash in my tin for that special thing: ... a new stock pot or a bigger run for the chickens or a replacement log burner, (that was a LOT of saving up,) then something goes wrong with the car or house, warranting a pay-out of EXACTLY that amount to.the.penny. So annoying.

We had a rock hit our windshield several years ago and it pretty much cracked the entire windshield right away. We took the car to have it replaced (had to go to a place about an hour from where we used to live) and paid way to much. The bad thing is, they didn't seal it right and we had to go back twice because it was leaking. That was fun...

Ughhhhh....we all postpone stuff we don't want to do. And we all suffer at some point. Glad your ordeal is over now!!

Wow. That's sucks. i've got a couple of things on my car that need to be fixed, only they can't be paid for by insurance. Luckily, the crack in my windshield was fixed before the ice hit.

But I'll keep this in mind if it happens again.

That is good advice however I tend to live by the "if it ain't broke don't fix it!" way. I bet I will be writing one of these posts one day. What a hassle and a quick way to spend that $200.
