Bits n'bobs

I may dislike January for all sorts of reasons but I cannot say that I saw this one fly by..!

Soon February? Really?

*giddy!*

Nothing much new, I posted some pics of the new chicks on The Chicken Diaries if you haven't seen them yet... there's even a little penguin in this batch, how cute is that?
Lookit!

Her name is Maggie Mae,
and she better be a girl or we can't keep her - booo!

So, I've been trying to eat less carbs (ok, bread...) in the hopes to shed a wee bit of that muffin top waist. Combined with farm exercise, of course. Um. Do you know how HARD it is to not eat bread? cereal? all kinds of tasty stuff?

Evil, I tell you.

I'm not sure that curbing carb intake by 5% is going to make much of a difference though :-/

I've found a way to hard-boil fresh farm eggs so that's awesome. Less meat, more eggs. Trying to eat tofu but the only way I find it edible is by shallow frying it in hot oil. Not very diet-friendly!

Anyone have tricks to share?

And don't even think of suggesting "drop the cakes and cookies" cuz that ain't gonna happen. There's a limit to the insanity of being fit, thin and healthy!

Yeah.

PS: interesting poll going on at the moment, don't you think?

So cute, it kind of looks like it doesn't have a beak and has a nose, strange!
For your carb sub, you could try switching to potato or rice things. Since I have been eating gluten free I have lost some weight. I know potato and rice are carbs, but I think that they fill you up a lot faster! I make potato bread and that is really yummy, or for pasta I sub quinoa, which is corn and a lot healthier for you than regular pasta and it still tastes the same!
Just some ideas you could try!!!

I usually mash my hard boileds with mayo and spread it on bread with some chipotle pepper.

According to that poll, there will be many millionaires and less people on earth.

you can slow cook tofu with sliced mushrooms, onions, and beef or veggie stock in a crockpot and some soy sauce.. seasonings of your choice.. then when nearly done [after 2 hours] add wild rice and cook till tender. its good. it will taste like chicken..

what do u mean u found a way to boil the eggs? r the fresh ones difficult to boil?

Tofu is foul, I have no suggestions.

Switch white potatoes for sweet ones. that'll help.

She is so cute. We had a dog named Maggie May Summertime! I plan to get back on the low carb diet soon.
We did South Beach about six years ago and it was awesome. The more carbs you eat the more you crave. When you stop eating them before you know it you don't miss them at all. Seriously.

I wouldn't say you have to give up carbs, just choose complex carbs. And yeah, the cookies and cakes will get ya. Can you maybe switch to a little piece of dark chocolate and then save the cookies/cakes for the weekend or special occasion. I love my dark chocolate. I have it every day. I would also normally promote daily exercise, but farm life DOES sound like exercise to me so you're probably OK there. I read your posts and get tired! LOL!
