The day after

Well, we're still buried under November-ish weather
but I have to remember that soon,
we'll be seeing this:

Must. Keep. The. Vision!

I was afraid to wake up to more dead hens this morning but no, we got spared. I just hope that was the last of it yesterday, I was at my wits' end. Apologies for the crappy post... I was in a crappy mood.

Today is a day for staying inside, from horses to chickens to dogs to us peeps. Luckily I baked a home-made carrot cake with cream cheese frosting yesterday, so a slice of that coupled a cuppa hot tea should pull us through. Soon spring. Soon spring. Soon spring.

I got to thinking about chemicals last night while taking a shower.

Yes, I do most of my productive thinking while scrubbing, LOL.

We're so careful about the stuff we ingest (well, some of us some of the time...) but how about the chemicals we slather on our bodies every day? Hair products, body creams and powders, soaps, nail polish, makeup and makeup removers, sprays and perfumes, not to mention toothpaste and mouthwash?

Is any of it safe?

What is it doing to our systems?

Just a thought...

Maybe I should stop taking those showers, it hurts my head.

Oh I do hope Mother Nature figures out it is Spring and not fall. We had hail last night. Enough already! said...

i hope it warms up for you soon....and so glad you didn't have and casualties....YAY!!

i have that same thot some time as i am taking my many medicines!!! tho i need them, i wonder what the heck it is doing to all my cells. i don't even want to think....then all the other stuff? like you mentioned, creams, shampoos, foods, we can drive ourselves to drink! but then that is not good for us either. so then that leads to depression, and well, more medicine....AGHHHHH! its a freaking vicious cycle! see what you started??? lol its good to get us thinking tho about what we are doing. (just so we don't drive ourselves crazy!) haha

Don't apologize about yesterdays post, we all need to vent every once in a while. Hopefully the sun will come out for you soon and your chickens will continue to get better.

Yes, all that stuff we cake on our bodies is not good either.
There are natural products we can just have to get used to them. (not good smelling, no lather etc)
I hope all your babies stay healthy!

Hey be more easy on yourself. We have our highs & lows. I hope the weather gets better and you get real spring weather soon. I'm hoping for more rain over here.

I do some of my best thinking in the shower too! I try to buy natural products for all my washing and beauty needs. They are not always as good but they make me feel better and they are better for the environment. Glad to hear that you haven't lost anymore babies. Carrot cake sounds delicious.

The cosmetics database here might help you sort through your cosmeticky stuff.

Also, California's got Proposition 65 which requires the maintenance of a list of known carcinogens along with things that cause reproductive harm and so on. You can find it here, with updates listed here.

For starters, try to always look for the bunny, because at least then you know it's not tested on animals.
