The camel's back is piling high...

I don't want to bog down this blog with negativity so I'll just resume this morning's horror in two lines and leave it at that:

Something (we think maybe a weasel?) broke into our big chicken coop last night and massacred five of my most beautiful, sweet laying hens - two were mortally wounded but still alive after having endured horrible pain until we found them at 9:30am this morning - Vegas had to put them down to end their suffering.

The heartbreak and emotional devastation is taking its toll, I don't know how much more of this I can take. It hurts to breathe.

RIP Antoinette, Holly, Gina, Mina and Emma - I'm so, so sorry your lives ended this way :-(

This weekend's torrential rains wash the blood away...

I loathe foxes. They are senseless and cruel. We only lost one hen, but it was our most wonderful girl, Laura.

Have you seen how we've protected our girls...http://archers-at-the-larches.blogspot.com/2010/05/new-cunning-plan.html It has really worked.

Sorry for your loss

I'm so sorry for your loss! That's terrible... Man, if something happened to my little pullets...! I'd just wanna hunt down that predator.

Busy Bee, thank you... predators, injuries and illness are all part and parcel of owning any fragile pet. I have to say it's still worth it though.... but oh man, you need a tough heart :-/

C, thanks so much... your hugs are healing :)

Lou, I wish we could have that! Our two runs are way too big though... and the predators that are the sh*t here can squeeze through a 1" chicken wire fence. It's horrible :(

Prin, merci xoxox

Sweet T, thank you sweetie xoxo

Candice, we both felt pretty murderous let me tell you... still am very pissed off and if i catch one it won't live to see the day!
